Hey guys, im trying to prepare to cut the cord in the next couple months. Got an Amazon Fire TV delivered today. Is installing Kodi the first thing I should do with this? What are the must have programs that I need to put on this thing?

Vermillion has a fantastic Kodi guide. I'd follow that. I bought mine to drop DirecTV for Vue. Very happy with my decision. Can't think of a channel I'm missing and I'm saving $100/month

Thanks for the guides. Got Kodi and exodus set up. Any other must have add ons?
Also, is there any way to download movies youre watching to the SD card storage on the AFTV box?

SIAP ... I have a question about Apple TV.
Do you have to have a cable or satellite subscription to watch content? I recently set up PBS Kids and Nick Junior for my kids to watch, and each time it had me select my cable provider (which, of course, I'm thinking about dumping).
TIA ...

That question is not specific to Apple TV. Most of the "TV Everywhere" apps on all platforms require you to login with your paid TV credentials. A lot of them work with a Sling TV or Vue account, which a lot of posters here do.
BTW, I don't think you have to login to the PBS Kids app. From what I remember, I just had to choose my local station.

Sling recently added some more channels.
Comedy Central and the Nickelodeon's.
It still sucks that you can't use sling credentials to log into the Disney and Nick apps, but it still sucks more that you can only have one stream at a time. The have to fix that if they want to stay relevant.

Its Disney that is handcuffing them on that situation. They went multistream with another package, but no Disney / ESPN channels.

Quick question/problem
My brother brought a projector that does not have audio output capabilities. He wants to get a sound bar to connect to the projector and he wants to be able to use Kodi. I figured it would be easiest to get an appletv 2 and use the optic audio port for the sound bar and the appletv for Kodi.
Is this the best way? I know the 4th gen appletv can do it to but trying to save some money by getting the 2nd gen. Thanks for any help

Some sound bars have HDMI pass through, so that might be an option.
If you're all Apple on the hardware said, I can't help with that.

Anyone having any issues with being out of network on Vue when using the mobile app? It says I am not on my home network which I assume is the same network as my PS4 even though I am on the same router using the same SSID.
It wouldn't be a big deal but I cannot watch anything on mobile.

I can try it out..give me a sec

So while trying to troubleshoot I reinstalled the app on both my phone and my wife's phone. Instead of registering as a replacement "install" it is registering as a new install meaning I have now exceeded the 5 device number on both phones.
Tried calling Sony support...one of the most worthless customer service experiences I have ever experienced. Blah.

You should try calling them again. It's like Russian Roulette with those people. You can get someone who knows absolutely nothing, and the next call is maybe their top person.
It's happened to me on 2-3 instances.
Also, I attempted to do what you said and it worked for me at my home last night
