Problem is I want my locals yesterday. I'm impatient, but I'm going to order from amazon.

Do you have your set - up built?
Posted on 3/31/16 at 1:50 pm to VermilionTiger
Negative. All of the supplies are sitting around the house. There's plenty I can do while I wait...I'm just being a woman about this
Never realized that I care so much about my locals until I can't watch the sexy traffic girl before work in the mornings.

I felt the same as you did. I couldn't find mine at Walmart either and I was pissed about it. I ordered mine on Amazon that night, built it the next day and the day after it was in

I have a fair understanding of most of the streaming services, apps and services provided by different packages, however I'm still a bit confused about software named "PlayOn"... Can someone provide a clear explanation of what it is and what exactly it does.
Thanks in advance...
Bump...

Vue is solid. I used Sling last football season and the quality was bad. Slightly more than sling with ESPN and you get a REAL nice stream.
Sling is dead. Long Live Vue.
Really night and day difference than using sling.

Ok. Now that I've had more time to watch a few things on Vue, my original review stands.
Game Changer. As long as they don't jack the price up.
The difference between sling and Vue is the difference between a high school football team and the Super Bowl winner. Sounds like hyperbole, but it isn't.
When I used sling last football season, the stream was choppy and live events had crappy quality. I didn't mind since it was $25 bucks but it wasn't high quality. Also hung up a lot when they went to commercials.
The only slowdown with Vue is some slight buffering when I start a movie. And by slight I mean slight.
I have no idea if the network will get clogged as word gets out and maybe by football season the streaming quality will have dipped, but for now Vue absolutely destroys sling for an additional $10 per month.

I just called ATT as my promotional rate will expire in 2 weeks. They want to add another $20 to the bill bringing it to $140 a month. I've always considered cutting the cord but until now, I figured what I pay for ATT would be sort of a wash compared to cutting the cord. Now, I'm convinced ATT can shove their service up their arse. I'm not paying that for my wife and I, when we already watch limited TV.
So, here's my hurdle. My wife is a little timid about cutting the cord. She likes to press a button and just watch the TV with no problems. I have a gameplan in mind to show her that getting HULU, Sling, using parents Netflix, and a digital antenna would allow her to watch her TV shows (which half are garbage but I digress) just without DVR service and a few more steps to get it going.
With that said, I KNOW i will need internet speeds that minimize buffering and issues so she can watch TV mostly pain free. I currently have 18 mbps with uVerse and my expectation is to increase that but I'm on the fence by how much. Looking at these posts, I'm guessing 45mbps is the generally accepted best practice for running multiple TV's without spending a ton on internet service.
Any other advice you can give me to convince my wife this is the right choice is greatly appreciated. The "presentation" occurs tonight so I have stopped all work today to prepare for this evenings main event.
Also, is ROKU the best option for streaming. I've seen a few limitations between Apple Tv and ROKU but ROKU seems to be better in the long run. FWIW, we are both iPhone/iPad users.

I completely eliminated Verizon Fios TV and about to cancel Fios Internet, now that Time Warner Maxx is available. I can get 200/20 for $59 a month on TW, but Fios wants $79 a month for 50/25 "because I've been a loyal customer for 14 years".
The wife factor on Fire TV with Vue, Kodi, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Plex is great (YMMV). Her comment last night,
"I love this remote! It's like 'TV remote For Dummies'.

Should I just assume, being in a rural location i.e. 40-50 miles from any local broadcast stations, even with added internet speeds, fancy antennas {which may or may not provide a decent consistent HD signal}, I am not a good candidate to "cut the cord" ????? OR, the added monthly fees, equipment costs, lack of dvr capability, inconsistent quality, overly complex operating/connection issues etc.,etc.,etc. are well worth the effort ?
Current internet/fiberoptic runs about $140 for 3 tv's but no movie channels.

Finally cut my cable
Got smart tv with firestick and ready to roll. Been using it for a while so Im familiar with some of it.
What apps do yall use on the firestick? Any specific add-ons for kodi? I have mainly watched movies on it but will now need to find more tv shows.

Looks like the most recent Firetv software upgrade has disabled Firestarter. Its not something I can't live without but it was a much better homescreen/launcher than the standard FireTV Homescreen.
