U-Verse fiber v Cox Internet

U-Verse just became available in my area of BR and I'm very interested in it compared to my current Cox service which runs $53/month total and I regularly get 15mb Download speeds but it still struggles to watch an on demand episode of something from DirecTV. As in it goes to buffering 5 minutes into the show.
It looks like they're advertising 6mb/s for around $45/month for the first 12 months but it goes up $17 after that which would be extremely aggravating.
Is their fiber that much better at 6mb/s versus whatever I've got from Cox currently?

no. the fiber is to the box, not your house, so you still have to rely on phone lines to get it to your house.
for cox I pay 75 and have 120mb down. You may want to check to see if you can upgrade Cox

Nope, and it's probably not fiber to the premises anyway. There are a few factors that would affect your U-verse experience, such as whether it's fiber to the node or fiber to the home. If it's fiber to the node, how old is the twisted pair copper going to your house? Will they bury new line? How far away from the VRAD are you? Knowing your top allowed speed package would help answer this.
Similar variables affect Cox service, though (as well as number of subscribers, modem type/age, coax age, number/type/quality of splitters, etc), so it's impossible to tell you which company is going to perform the best in your area. However, all speeds equal and all service set up and performing exactly as it should, Cox is superior to U-verse.

I had U-Verse at 18 mbs and it would buffer a lot on KODI and other steaming services.

Gotcha. Yep. Might just try to use this to get cox to increase something or decrease price.
Thanks,

Let's put this way, if those ISPs were cars, uverse is pinto and cox is a Ferrari

U-Verse is overpriced garbage.

Just switched from Uverse to Cox for these same reasons....my God what a difference.
I hard lined my Mac to the router and achieve speeds of 120 DL and 20+ Upload

Damn Shame that Ferrari can't stream an episode of GOT through DirecTV's On Demand without Buffering.
I guess I got a little excited when I saw that email from them saying they were in my area now. I originally signed up for that notification for the TV service but now that I have DirecTV I'm good.

U-verse really isn't fiber. AT&T is doing fiber to the door in about 5 cities only bc Google fiber is there.
Your best bet for fiber on a national level is Verizon Fios

Yeah I'd just upgrade your Cox service. I roll with the 77.99/month package and it's plenty

If I ever relocate Google Fiber will be a requirement.

I posted this in the OT...
Which is better for home internet, Xfinity or Uverse. i currently have Xfinity but could get a better deal if I switched. Id be going from 6 mbps (xfinity) to 18 mbps uverse for cheaper than what Im paying now....
eta - Im in Houston if that makes a difference

Call Cox and tell them you're considering switching...you saw a good deal at Uverse. You like the service, but need to lower your costs. They will offer you a 20% "good customer" discount. If you tell them you would like to get it under the next closest whole number, say $40, they will up it to 30%. Works every year, just have to make the call.
