Not sure how to trouble shoot. Sony Bravia to Samsung Q950A via eARC. The combo has worked pretty much flawlessly for years. Recently, the TV randomly switches to TV speakers. If i am home, I can go into the Samsung app and fix it at least temporarily. . Wife is powerless to do so. How do I figure out if it's the bar, the cable, the connection or the TV? I am not against starting over. I guess buying a new cable is the cheap starting point? Reset the bar?

You need to reset the CEC handshake.

Unplug TV and Soundbar from the wall.

Unplug the HDMI cable from both

Wait 5 minutes

Plug the HDMI cable back into both devices

Plug in the soundboard, then the TV (power)

Turn on soundboard, wait 30 seconds

Turn on TV.

Get a beer and frick your wife for doing a job well done.

Heck of a handshake.
Sounds like a solid plan.

Probably something to do with that. Try resetting some stuff for now before anything else.

Had trouble like this with my Sony bravia and Yamaha bar a while back. I forget exactly what fixed it but when I researched it it seemed to be a sony issue.

I have 2x q700a and 1x q600a and all have become extremely unreliable with ARC if ARC even works at all. We just got to the point where we just plug our streaming box into the soundbars and then the soundbar to the TV. They work great like that.

Have the same issue with my x930e and Vizio sound bar. It doesn’t happen frequently, only when they have been playing for several hours. It started happening a couple years ago when Sony released a big software update. Before that, no issue.

I’ll try the handshake reset.

I unplugged as much as I could. Did not remove the HDMI from TV though. Checked for firmware on the soundbar but none available through the app. Waited at least 30 seconds. All good so far. Waiting for wife text though.

also disable the TV speakers within TV settings.

This doesn't stop it from switching when there's a problem. There's no true disable.

It does for mine. With my Sony, Vizio and LG tvs, disabling the internal speakers eliminated the TVs from even checking the audio setting during startup or during CEC handshakes. It just defaults to HDMI ARC out or fiber out depending on the TV and there is no fuss.

There isn't a disable feature. It's just a choice.

Well that is unfortunate. I'm glad my TVs all have the setting to disable.

Your Sony doesn't. Besides, even if this did exist, which it doesn't, it would not solve the problem. There would simply be no sound.

It solves the problem of TV audio coming out of the TV speakers and makes it super easy to tell when audio isn't functioning properly.

I've been Sony loyal my whole life, my theater was Sony except for speakers including an $8k projector. Man it's premium and works great, but once very 4 months or so shite would just go to hell. Been happening for years. Still happens with my Sony OLED. Just like yea I'm not gonna connect to your shield anymore, sorry bro, power cycle everything 3 times and do a rain dance, and I'll work again.

Cheap cable swap first, then try a full power cycle on both, unplug TV and bar for a minute. HDMI handshake issues like this often clear up with a reset.
