things that you use to watch tv? I'm so clueless but we're looking at ways to save money in general and just wondering if it's really cheaper than what we're paying.

Thanks for any helpful info.

I pay $50 for YouTubeTV. I already had internet, Netflix and Amazon Prime when we had cable so I don't consider that an added cost. I think my internet might be $10/mo more without the bundle savings.

My DirecTV crept up over the years to $140 monthly. Got a Roku, added YouTubeTV for $50 and Amazon Prime + Netflix movies for a total of 70 a month. To get equivalent via cable would cost at least 165 plus. Sports via YTv are great.

Ya, my dish bill got up to about $130 a month, so I went back to PS Vue and pay $60. Already had netflix, hulu, amazon etc, so I'm saving $70 a month.

YouTube TV, Internet, Disney + comes to $137 /month. I plan on getting rid of Youtube TV after football season.

I also have Amazon Prime Video, but I don't count that. I have Prime for the free two day shipping because my wife just can't stop ordering shite from Amazon.

It isn't cheaper for many, just more convenient as there is no contract.

Some will say I save no money but that is nonsense. I had Netflix Amazon and Hulu ALONG with cable. Now I have Netflix and Amazon and rotate Hulu with HBO and sometimes CBS All Access. My savings are the cost of Expanded Basic.

Folks like to argue that all I did was replace cable with the other options and that isn't true. Most folks have Netflix & Amazon before they even think of cutting the cord.

You don't get the full savings of cutting the cable option because you lose the bundle so they raise your internet price. I still easily save $50 a month and it is much easier to swap out the services I want with online options than it was to swap out cable boxes and services.

For me it was more about almost never turning on the cable box anymore. It wasn't to save money. It was to stop paying for a service I almost never used.

Thanks everyone — next question — how do I find out what internet options are available at my address??

Friends told me that they use ATT uverse but it tells me my address isn’t a location where it’s available.

Go to their website and type you address. It will tell if they offer a service and what is offered.

Yeah I have an antenna with an htpc I can dvr shows with. Internet and Netflix. Sometimes we swap Netflix for Hulu but it's Netflix 90% of the time. I also have a plex server with a fair bit of content from ripped movies etc. That's way more content than I can watch.

I have 2 versions of cord cutting:

8 Months of the Year - $0 for Tablo (just locals with a nice dvd and channel guide)

4 Months of the year - Streaming Service that includes Football channels. Typically $50? Now that PS Vue is shutting down I'll have to find a good NFL Redzone carrier.

The 1st version of cord cutting has nothing to do with replicating the channels I used to have. It's a lifestyle change of reducing my habitual tv watching and doing other things. So I typically haven't spent any money for several months and go back for the few I miss it too much.

Trying to do this with a cable company is a nightmare.

And you can get the services to all TVs in your house as well.

No contracts, full house coverage, more flexible viewing options are the 3 big things streaming has over cable right now.
