My go to is to tell them I'm looking at other providers and threaten to leave. I'll even tell them that other providers have offered to pay my remaining balance to switch to thwart their response about being held to the contract. Usually works.

I assume they make one that can control all the DTV functions...?

I have a love/hate relationship with it.
It's nice that I can change the channel even when I'm outside (I have my signal on a wireless splitter). However, it's a pain in the arse that it won't change inputs on my TV. If I want to switch the the FireTV I have to find the other remote or get up and switch it.

Harmony 650 or 700 should handle everything. It's what I'm looking into to solve my sound bar issue.

This remote works with Genie, if you still have one.

GOAT DirecTV remote.
I called a couple months ago and just told the rep that my bill was too high, and I didn't feel like DirecTV was a good value anymore. They knocked $25 off and gave me free Showtime.

I have basically 4 to watch TV. I have to turn on my XBOX One, TV, DirecTV and receiver.
On my kids Xbox one the direct tv hdmi is plugged into the Xbox.
The xbox then controls everything.
even the TV
ETA: You can tell them that you are switching because of lack of streaming with ESPN and the like and they will give you a discount.
