Tell me about your smart lock

Started a thread on the Home/Garden board. They suggested to pop over here. Searched but answers seemed to be inside threads and not lock specific. Yale seemed popular on the H&G Board. Please see below:
My nanny can never remember her key. Looking at getting the Schlage Connect Smart Deadbolt. I have a fair amount of home automation with SmartThings as the hub.
Should I be looking elsewhere?

We got the Yale smart lock from Best Buy.
Worth every penny.
Locks on its own after anywhere from 3 seconds to 5 minutes.
I can add and delete codes for family and visitors.
I can lock or unlock via my phone from anywhere on the planet.

After that review and browsing the interwebz, the Yale seems like a great product.

It really is.
A big thing I have learned from building a smart home: you get what you pay for.
The Yale was $250-$300 when we got it. Worth it. Like other tech out there, there are cheaper options, but you will spend so much time trouble shooting it, the app sucks, power issues, etc. It takes a long time to get all smart home gadgets unless you’re rich.

because there are plenty of devices that cost very little that work magnificently.
Sonoffs are literally less than 5 bucks and work great.
Shellys start at 10 bucks and can fit inside your existing gang box.

Ah. I was talking about devices not hardware which is what a simpleton like me calls those. But I know you are well-versed in home automation.

What's the battery situation in these? How long do they last?
Posted on 12/9/20 at 2:00 pm to nobigdeal69
anywhere from 2 months to 9 months. I had one that ate up batteries, it ended up dying and Schlage sent me a brand new one free. Now for my 2 i havent changed the batteries since august

I’ve had my Yale lock for 2.5 years and changed the batteries once.

Anyone have experience with the Wyze deadbolt? The rest of my smart devices are from them so if the deadbolt is good too that'd be a big help

I concur on the the nest yale lock. I have 3 and have never had any issues.

Rob has some answers for you.
I wonder why he doesn't even look at the Schlage lock which I perceived to be the industry standard for years. I have had several of these and no issues at all. My first one was linked up to a Hub which added several features.

I have the Wyze deadbolt. No complaints on it now that they have fixed the battery drain issue. For the price it's a nice lock. You can also add on the keypad if you want to use something other than your phone. Works as advertised.
