Baby’s car seat gets hot in the summer so wife has tasked me with finding a way to make the car seat a comfortable temperature for our kid. I was thinking about a small DIY swamp cooler for the backseat. Any other ideas? Remote start is not an option. It would be nice if there were car seats that had cooling ventilation like new vehicles do.

I thinik you are over thinking this. Modern cars will cool a car pretty quickly. So what if your baby has to endure a few hot moments.

ETA: I don't know what a swanp cooler is. Sounds redneck as hell.

This, tint your windows or get a shade screen for the windshield.

You'll have to move out past Fredericksburg for those to start doing work.

That’s such a terrible idea that I’m torn on whether this is a troll.

Sure.

Tint your windows.
Use a shade on your windshield/back glass.
Walk out a little early and start the car to let it cool off.
Take the car seat inside (buy one that snaps into a base, if yours doesn’t).

I feel like when my girls were little there was a cover you could put over the seat when you were out of the car to prevent it getting too hot? I could be imagining that…

Either attach a vacuum hose to your air vent (they sell kits already made for this, but they're pricey for what they are) or put a 12-volt fan in the door that turns on when you start the car. Or the easiest solution is dress your baby in light clothes. Mine survived with no AC and the windows down.

This must be your first kid. Once you have another one she won't think about stuff like this.

Get your windows tinted with ceramic tint. You can even get clear ceramic tint for your windshield if she is that worried about it. Have your wife lay a baby blanket or towel over the car seat when you get out and it will keep the plastic and metal from getting so hot that it burns on contact.
