Yamaha box speakers that came with my amp/receiver with Klipsch reference speakers?
Worth the $300?

Probably. Who knows if it's worth it. My system has about $10k worth of speakers. Probably not worth it but it sounds awesome.

Maybe but go listen to lots of other speakers. Klipsch have a sound that isn't for everyone. Lots of better options most likely.

Like a home theatre in a box speakers? If so, yes you will if you have a good receiver

I have the opposite question. I have all Klipsch speakers and I’m still using a $100 Sony receiver from early the 2000s. For the most part movies and streaming services sound good but have always wondered what a better receiver would sound like.

I’ve got 5 Klipsch 5800’s in my living room with a 10 inch Klipsch Pro in wall sub and it’s loud as shite and sounds great.
Using a Klipsch sub amp to power the sub and a Denon to power the 5 ceiling speakers. I think it’s the AVR-X but can’t remember the exact model.

My FIL just had his media room done and got a Revel system put in place with a Sony 5000es projector. Good lord. I think he needs to turn down the bass. Shakes the whole damn house
It makes a kids movie like Monsters Inc ridiculous.

It could if you get something with a high quality automatic room correction but an AVR with something like Audyssey XT32 will run you $1k+. Might not be worth it.

Revel makes very good speakers.

Notice a difference likely. When you say box speakers are you talking about a 5.1 box you bought? If so you’ll notice a difference in frequency response and the peak ranges due to quality.
This might be a little overkill but when I built out our sound, I really wanted to go old school receiver because it’s just clean and simple sound whereas new receivers have a ton of automated sound levelers and equalizer distributors which can augment the true sound. Turning that off and going through a sound balance will go a LONG way to making any setup sound significantly better.
