Yeah, Microsoft was probably getting so much well deserved backlash they crawfished on charging for it.
Hopefully they back off the requirements to download Windows 11. I’m literally using a computer that can run Autocad and Adobe programs but they say it can’t run the latest Windows?

Don't necessarily need to learn linux, plenty of free user friendly builds available. Mint, elementaryOS etc but learning linux would be beneficial

Agreed, my comp is fine but can't upgrade to 11? Makes no sense.

It’s more profitable if you upgrade so they can sell you flashy new subscription software. Maybe even get bricked by bitlocker so they can sell you backup subscriptions.

One of the biggest things I've seen for computers that are reasonably powerful but not eligible for w11 is TPM. If your pc isn't showing eligible to update you can try checking your model or your BIOS settings to see if TPM isn't disabled there. Probably a long shot but worth cheking.

It make sense. Windows 11 uses a hardware-backed security model. Your computer doesn't have the required hardware, or it isn't enabled. Therefore, it cannot run Windows 11.

Not true. Several TPM1 modules can be upgraded to TPM2 but they don’t make the list. MS wants people on newer hardware to sell services.

Get a Windows 11 iso. Flash it to a usb stick with Rufus. Enable the compatibility check hack. Upgrade.

Only catch is you have to have a Microsft account.

I upgraded an MSI mobo from 2015 to TPM2 using a $20 module I got off of Amazon.

The bigger issue with older computers is that CPUs are being removed from the supported list on what is apparently a quarterly basis. It essentially broke my laptop from 2016 that was running Win11 fine for years, no more security updates.

But honestly, I replaced it with a $300 Surface laptop 4 from eBay. It's fine.

Haha. Obviously I have every other popular email/log in to survive in this world. The Hotmail address basically runs through Microsoft’s current Outlook system. I do get some laughs when I give it out.

being an IT geek, getting in early and having a slightly unusual spelling allowed me to grab it
