Bumping this because I'm looking at a piece of land to build a house on and right now it looks like Starlink might be my only option. Should be no obstructions.

However, I work from home, so I need consistent internet. I have fiber right now, but it's just 2 of us, and we aren't streaming more than 2 devices at a time. I watch a fair amount of youtube when taking breaks from work, but nothing I consider taxing.

Looking at Starlink's map, it says my area should have 40-106 Mbps. That should be sufficient for 2 people and working, right? Any issues in the overnight hours?

Ky, you should be fine. I’m in an area with even less avg download speed according to the map and I have no issues. I work from home and have multiple other devices online all day. I notice some lower speeds during evening peak hours but still no issues. With the good download speeds and low latency, Starlink runs like a champ.

Thanks for that. We watch hulu, max, Netflix in the evenings and play on phones/tablets. Nothing gaming related.

On the pricing, I think I could live with standard. Looks like priority can be purchased for a fee, but I wonder how that is managed. Is it just at the start of your billing cycle until the bandwidth is used, or could you prioritize when you are using priority data vs standard data?

The issue with Starlink reliability is primarily the satellite based nature of it. Luckily, it’s pretty solid through regular cloud cover or rain, but any heavy rain or thunderstorms, it loses connectivity. I’ve definitely had to swap to LTE on Teams calls a few times during heavy thunderstorms.

My sister who lives in the mountains near Asheville, NC, and my daughter who lives in the mountains near Winchester, VA, both say it’s great. My sister was able to get rid of her rented office and start working from home with Starlink (she’s a consultant).

The only downside is the initial investment in equipment which can be expensive. My sister is going to have to put in a tower in March because there’s too much foliage around her house. My daughter’s house is in a clearing, so no issues for her. Starlink doesn't provide email, so you'll need a separate email service if you don't have one already.

If I want Starlink for home and RV do I need two pay plans? Two devices as well?
