At the bargain basement prices they charge, you could expect to see some occasional issues.

That really depends on the cause. The Note 7 crashed and burned because of a design flaw. If Apple has a similar problem it could possibly see a similar outcome. But if it's a bad batch of batteries that they can identify and stop/recall then it will be fine.

Swelling batteries is a pretty serious issue.

We actually do mass call testing in an RF cage. We limit the amount of phones to 50 now because we tried 80 and caused a pretty significant event from heat.

Had to replace about ~ 25 phone lol.

And Apple will make all of these customers whole by giving them new phones.

I'm far from an Apple fanboy, but they make a quality product that they stand behind.

Having said that, pretty embarrassing I'd be pissed if it happened to me but I'm never going to be the first in line for a brand new phone

As a manufacturer it does. 2 out of 10s or 100s of thousands is an anomaly, not a widespread symptom of faulty manufacturing. Likely just a lazy qc guy, which is a shite load cheaper to replace.

Either way, sucks to be one of the 2.

You have to expect a few duds when you produce that much. Will be interesting if it happens on a much larger level, 2 bad ones so far isn't even a blip on the radar.

Two phones warrants the “Splitgate” label?

People are so dramatic these days.
