Just FYI, i ran a speed test yesterday - my speeds were automatically upgraded

Good to know. I was at 110 when I ran it this weekend.

Yeah, I did not even call them about it. So this upgrade must be something they are gradually doing.

I use my own modem and my own router with Charter. My router is an older Nighthawk, 7000 series I believe.

Anyone getting the new speeds in SE LA? I read an article yesterday that they plan to roll out gigabit speeds by year end.

They made a big deal about upgrading and how nice they were to give it for free. I don't know anyone who got it without calling them and having them "update" the modem. They were able to push it to mine and I didn't have to swap modems
That is interesting, since, in order to get the 200mb speed you'll need a modem with 16x4 bonded channels on Spectrum. They typically provide the 8x4 with the 100mb plan. I had added the 200 mb plan but could only get 100 until the modem was changed.

Here's what happened to me Saturday:

Fonz: I hear you have double speeds for free now. Please update me.

SPectrum: We do. But we're showing that your Arris Surfboard 6141 is not compatible with speeds above 120

Fonz: That's funny. Everywhere i look on the internet, says it can handle speeds at 343

Spectrum: Sorry sir, there is nothing we can do to help.

Fonz: Do i need to buy a new modem?

Spectrum: Yes, we sell them too.

Fonz: No thanks, I don't want your awful hardware. Can you double check my modem? I am pretty sure you have the info wrong on your end

Spectrum: Sir, your modem will not handle it.

Fonz: Just provision the modem and send a new signal. Let's see

Spectrum: Sir, it won't work

Fonz: Do it.

Spectrum: Ok, sending now.

Fonz: (after 5 minutes and a speed test): Well, color me shocked. My slow modem is picking up speeds at 212 right now.

Just keep pushing them. They don't want to do anything unless they are forced.

If you're currently a Spectrum internet user and you've been paying for their 100Mbps service, make sure you chat with someone on their website and tell them you're not getting 200Mbps speeds. Apparently, we're supposed to be getting new modems and double the speeds without paying anything extra. I literally messaged them about my speeds (which have averaged 115down/12up), but they saw that as lacking and they simply said they'll be upgrading my modem to get 200Mbps. Just an FYI.

Why rent and pay for a Spectrum modem? If you have your service with the for 10 years, you'll end up spending around $700 when you can purchase a better one for $110.

I just chatted with them and it looks like I need a new modem. I have the Ubee that they provided, but it's max speed is 120 MB. They told me to go by the store and swap it out, but I don't want to do that. Also, was anyone able to get them to reduce the bill to the promotional rate?

I was told the new speeds aren’t available in my area yet, but when they are they will send out letters about exchanging the old modem for a new one free of charge.
