Are they worth the crazy price? Do they come with their own pain in the arse issues?
ssd is a must, currently have an Asus that’s served me well but windows updates frick it up every time

Mainly excel, word, outlook is all I do on it, but needs to be AutoCAD capable

Can go with a new iPad Pro. Just announced AutoCad is coming to it "with performance as fast as the fastest PCs."

Everything you asked is how our office works, only caveat is that we use parallels in order for auto cad and estimating software to work on Windows 10 operating system and cloud based windows 365. These things are to entrenched to change our operating platform. Issues or mostly annoyance due to the constant windows updates, but nothing major.

So why do the $99 a year for the Microsoft office suite right now, if I switch my work laptop to an Apple product but keep my wife and kids pc’s , is there an issue?

Switched to a MacBook Pro when I started grad school and it's been amazing. Have never used AutoCAD though.

sort of. Lacks the convenience that makes Windows so great

The auto updates always give me the dreaded blue screen :(

Then I have to restore to a point before the update

Major PITA, and always unsure if the pc will completely crash leaving me screwed

Want a REAL pc, buy winx.

Fewer of them but they exist.

Probably the biggest PITA is that Apple controls everything. Windows has lots of little problems because the OS has to work with all these other drivers and apps nobody else ever heard of. Apple doesn't have that problem, but restricts you to using what is Apple-approved and of course makes you pay extra to do so.

Win10 is okay, but I still vastly prefer MacOS.

MacOS works fantastic, as long as you don't go trying to go too far out of the realm of what Apple supports.

That being said, if you use AutoCAD, I'd highly recommend sticking with Windows. AutoCAD for Mac is not nearly up to par with AutoCAD for Windows

Here's a little hint that could save you some cash. Download Linux and install Ubuntu or Linux Mint on it and see how you like it before buying a new one.

EDIT: Autocad doesnt run on it natively.

Not sure if one of these alternatives will work for you

I’m not sure if this old dog can learn those new tricks

Will I have compatibility with documents to the office suite clone?

As soon as the i7's go on sale, I'm switching to a Mac with 16G.

Considering putting my current Win laptop into a VM and running it on the Mac if needed.
