Just had a geek squad guy come out and said either the T-Con Board or Main board or both need to be replaced. With parts and labor it was like $600+ for them to fix. I looked up the parts and the T-Con board is around $80-100 and the Main Board looks to be around $170. Both parts for $300ish after tax.

I Youtube'd how to replace each part and it is very simple. Has anyone done this themselves, or had the same issue and it was one part and not the other?

I'm either going to bite the bullet and buy a new TV or try and fix my current one.

Thanks

I have a Samsung tv too. I have to switch inputs to play games or watch netflix or whatever on my PS4. Sometimes when I switch back the picture doesn't come on. If I press the guide button that will usually come on for a second then go back to nothing. I have found that turning the tv off, waiting a few seconds, then turning it on and going to the guide, then back to regular tv fixes it. If you were switching inputs this may be your issue. Samsung tvs are really awful.

I replaced the main board on a Sony 52". It was real easy and only required a screw driver. I bought a used main board on ebay with a 30 day guarantee for $30.

I learned the art of soldering after my Samsung crapped out in college. Replaced a popped capacitor and she never failed after.

If you have a youtube guide, I'd fix it myself just for the gratification.

I just repaired a Samsung 55" that was given to me because it was struck by lightning, replaced the main board and it came right back to life.

Check shopjimmy.com, they have a pretty good cross reference system that will show other part #'s that are guaranteed to work with whatever model you enter. In my case I was able to get an entire rebuild kit (all 4 boards) for not much more than what just the main cost.

I have also bought off ebay with good luck as well

Thanks for the feedback guys,

OnePercent- Did your tv work at all? Mine has sound but no picture. I'm trying to figure out if I should order just the main drive or just the t-con board. If worst comes to worst I could just buy both and replace.

Mine would turn on but only to a black screen, it wouldn't pull up any menus, change inputs, volume, etc. May do some research on your model some have known failure rates on certain boards. As far as parts go I took the approach of "well I'll have spares" if I bought a part that wasn't the problem, however, mine weren't nearly the price of yours

UPDATE: Bought both the main board and tcon board from "tvpartstoday" off ebay. Tcon board was only $12 and main board was $100.

I replaced the Tcon board first and checked to see if the picture worked and it did. So I'll be returning the main board.

Best Buy Geek squad wanted to charge $650 for something I fixed for $12. Do your research haha the info is out there.

Congrats. I watched repair guys replace parts on a Sony 55:under warranty a couple of times.

There’s not much in there. A couple of boards that have a clip on wire harness and some screws to hold them in place,
