I bought a 75inch Sony X900f last month after doing 2-3 months of research and reading. That thing is awesome.

I came across this one but if I recall it was quite a bit more expensive no?

While doing research I’m seeing the Vizio P-Series and the Sony X900F mentioned a lot.

Looks like I would have to go 75” with those instead of 85”. The P-series looks like the largest it goes is 75”, and the Sony for some reason is $4,500 for an 85” so I would have to go 75” which is around $2,400. Not sure why the Sony’s price jumps so much going from 75 to 85.

Anyone have any opinion on if those two have a better picture? And if so a large enough difference to downgrade from 85” to 75”?

I’d like to go 85” but if the picture on the other 2 is considerably better than the Samsung I’d rather the better picture.

If I remember right, the Q6 is Edge Lit while the Sony is full array lit with local dimming. Full array is better for HDR and Dolby Vision.

I think you have to go to the Q8 Series with Samsung to get full array. And it does not support Dolby Vision.

Yeah, however for the 2019's that just dropped they brought full array to the Q70 now as well.

I wouldn't go below a Q7, which is the equivalent to the KS8 series from a couple of years ago.

The Vizio P and Sony X900F are neck and neck performance wise. However the Sony is almost $1,000 more, you should choose the Vizio between those two as the Sony is nowhere near 1K better if even better at all.

Man you really need to consider OLED if you love your Plasma.

It's going to be in a brightly lit room. Personally I'd go with the Samsung model he started with in the first post.

If you are interested in the Vizio P series, wait for the new 2019 models as there will be 3 new models of P Series Quantum. P Series is different than P Series Quantum. The P Series Quantum is Vizio's quantum dot TV that is one of the best rated TVs, period. the 2018 model only came in 65" but in 2019, the 3 P Series Quantum models will all come in 75" too.

The main differences between the 3 models will be the number of local dimming zones. No prices have been released but I would expect 1 or 2 of the models to have a 75" offering under $2k.

If smart features are a priority for you, the Vizio may not be your cup of tea. It has basic functionality but the smart system generally gets mediocre reviews.

I understand but if he had a Plasma for 8 years it must not have bothered him too much.

ETA never mind I see he just moved...my bad.

People keep bringing up the brightly lit room with regards to OLED but I read the RTINGS.com reviews on OLED, and I haven't found one where they warned against using the OLED in bright rooms. The LGs they specifically say it will not have issues in a bright room.

I have had plasmas in a bright room before. Never had an issue after the days of flat glass panels with no anti-reflective coatings were over.

If I ever spend $2,500 on a TV, I’m watching too much TV and need to go spend more time outside.

A brightly lit room will wash out the deep blacks on OLED. It did the same thing to plasma displays.

Going to stick with the 2018 models, the price difference is just too large for the newer models.

The Sony X900F in 75" is $2,799 and the Samsung Q6 in 85" is $2,699. I can't even find the Vizio PQ series anywhere, only the regular P which doesn't seem to be as good as the PQ.

The newer 2019 models of the PQ series will be under $2,000? I see the P series looks to be cheaper than the PQ series but I didn't think the PQ would be under $2,000 for a newer model.

Yeah my previous home was very easy to control the light in the living room. Very few windows and I could basically make it completely dark with curtains. New house is much bigger and the entire back side of the house is giant windows.

Definitely agree with this. I have my current plasma that I've had for years in the new living room right now and the picture isn't nearly as good as it was in my old house.

At least for now its looks like my decision is the X900F in 75", which from reviews seems to have a slightly better picture, or the Samsung Q6 in 85" with a slightly less impressive picture but quite a bit larger.

And? People watch TV at night too. Assume you are correct and you can't see the different in OLED during the day (which is patently false due to viewing angles if nothing else), the OLED is still going to give you superior picture in the evenings/night. This doesn't even get into the inherent benefits that plasma/OLED give you for just picture quality in general.

I expect it to be. Again, prices haven't been announced but the 65" P series Quantum is going to drop to $1000-1200 soon. That leaves plenty of room between $1500-2000 for 1 or two 75" models.

The new P Series Quantum models won't be a significant upgrade at 65" so prices for the 65" should fall near the current $1400 i'd guess.

Are you arguing just to argue? It's a fact that OLED and plasma don't look as good in sunlight as LED. Not debatable and this is coming from a person (me) who owns the best OLED made (LG65C8P). Fortunately, I have a light controlled room. My choice would have been different if my viewing room was brightly lit and I couldn't control the light on the screen.

That is not a fact. OLED doesn't look as superior to LED in bright rooms because the effectiveness of the greater contrast is reduced. It is still as good or better unless you are trying to compare an LED TV with greater brightness vs a lower brightness OLED. That is a different discussion and is merely comparing the nit output between panels and not the different tech. LED/OLED doesn't matter.

If you have an OLED vs LED with comparable nit ratings, the OLED will have a superior picture, even in bright rooms.

But that is the OLED weakness, brightness. Luckily MicroLED on the way is a blend of OLED and QLED and won't have the shortcomings that either have.

Im holding out with my Samsung KS8 until MicroLED.

I'd like to go OLED but I have to go bigger than 65", the new room is quite large and I've had 65" for years.

A 77" LG OLED is like $7,000.

I can't justify that if the Samsung Q6 at 85" $2,700 is a solid selection.
