I have a 40x60 shop that Id like to put a stereo system in. I think I want to mount the speakers in the celling which has 2×10 joists and mount the control unit on the wall. I have a few shelves I could use for that. I have a sony system now but it doesnt have bluetooth. Id like to stay at or below $200
Thanks
Thanks

Any reason a simple Bluetooth RCA adapter that stays on wouldn't work? What is the current system lacking?

Just bluetooth. It sounds extremely good and will blow the roof off. I bought a bluetooth USB adapter on a friends recommendation but it didnt work well at all. It would skip and then play fast and lose signal. Are there good ones available?

Logitech makes a good one. I've had it for 5 years no issues.

Is the receiver centrally located? You're only going to get about 30ft max out of a Bluetooth signal from a phone.

Yea. My phone stays on a table about 10 feet away. I never have it in my pocket when im in there.
I really want a bluetooth usb adapter for the system i have but if they arent 100% reliable and sound just as good as built in bluetooth i will just buy a whole new setup.
ETA shite even if it had an aux input id be fine with that.

What does it have? RCA (red/white)? If so, RCA-->3.5mm cable is all you need
Making the assumption it has SOME input since you had a Bluetooth adapter. Also assumes you weren't aware RCA to aux was a common conversion. A lot of people seem to not realize that. This whole post may be very well beneath you, but it never hurt to start with the basics

It has a usb input on the front, an iphone dock, and thats it. The speakers wire to it with with some kind of 2 pin plug.
I have an android phone now which will not interface with the usb input which pissed me off and made me want to smash the system and get a new one

That makes sense. Audio over USB is one thing Apple does damn well. And it's close to limited to them who really and truly does it well (excluding the mad rush of USB-c stuff that is bound to change the headphone game very, very soon).
I'm driving now, but I'll try to throw a few things together and post in a couple of hours.
Would you mind terribly just a quick "what I want" list? Single input from phone/Bluetooth? Want to leave a CD player hooked all the time? Streaming radio built in (probably out of budget (? AM/FM?

Thanks man im not going out and buying anything today. I have a portable bose blutooth thing that will work for now.
What I want:
Ability to play music off my android phone, hardwire or bluetooth doesnt matter
Am/fm
Loud enough for a bunch of drunks
Id like to be able to mount the speakers in the celling, but this is probably the least important thing. I have miles of shelf space.

Do this! I guarantee you will get pissed off with Bluetooth breakup of your music because anything you use in your shop could potentially frick with the connection.
You'll want to punch the speaker after about an hour.

If going with just a simple, 1- input system, consider dayton audio b652 bookshelf speakers (they have a mounting bracket. Since you said shop, I assume an exposed joist where it will "hang" rather than something in-ceiling or are you looking more for something like a car speaker that you'll be mounting some other way?
Amp wise, I would nab a Dayton DTA1 (benefit of being able to run on batteries if you were to make a portable tailgating system). They used to make a wireless version but it seems to have been discontinued.
Alternative (and when deciding between the two, I chose this one) Lepai 2020a+.
Both are class T amps that will drive the heck out of those little speakers. That leaves plenty of room in your budget for wire to mount them, and I don't don't that you can spend all the way up to $200 and find something better, but you'll be pretty hard pressed to do it without finding a sale on something.
Dayton drivers are great for how cheap they are, and they sell essentially everything they make separately (so you can buy just the drivers and build a custom enclosure, or I can look more for a "ceiling mount" type of similar speaker, though I've not used those myself.
If you're looking for more features, you would probably need to step out of the Class T amps up to either a cheap receiver or Dayton looks like they make a little Class D amp with Bluetooth, but it's closer to $80 for just the amp.
I can tell you that I have a Lepai + b652 setup. It's loud and clear enough for shop use and cheap enough that you won't care if it breaks
ETA- saw your list after I wrote that. Will update in a bit

Couple Sonos play1s off of Craigslist should do the trick.

So I know significantly less about in-wall and in-ceiling stuff, but I do like Dayton enough to suggest either the CS820C (8" cone only, built to survive in your shop) or ME825W (if you think it's easier to cut a rectangle than a circle. It's designed for in-wall but looks like it shouldn't be difficult to ceiling mount). That would run $60 and $100, respectively, and they would go flush/near flush with the ceiling.
Now, in terms of source, FM pretty much doesn't come built in to anything under a receiver. The one exception I know of is made by Lepai, but it does NOT have the 2020 chip. From what I read, I can't recommend it. Because of that, a cheap stereo receiver is where you'll have to start. When it comes to that, Pyle makes cheap stuff. I don't know how it sounds. You'll get more features there than anywhere else, though.
For cheap receiver from a reputable brand, maybe a Sony DH-130 ($100). Would be right at the top or just over your budget when you add enough speaker wire to get to the ceiling if you don't have it lying around.

What is the specific Sony System (model #) you have now?

Do you have WiFi? Would the Chromecast audio work with your current system?

Thanks for putting all that time in.
I can live without am/fm if thats a major hangup. I have a small portable radio that i can use for listening to games. Thats all i need it for.

Personally I’d buy a simple 2 channel receiver like the one linked below, or get on Craigslist and buy a cheap used one there, and then connect whatever speakers you have/want to it. The Yamaha has Bluetooth built in, but if you’re having issues with that a simple stereo mini cord plugged into one of the back aux inputs would work no problem.
$120 Yamaha 2ch receiver with Bluetooth - Amazon
Headphone out to RCA
