$140 is post tax, services fees.

Reason why I say that is I called them yesterday and asked for a credit with overlapping internet services and he gave me a $68 credit on the first months bill.
Is the $140 per month with the credit you mention? Or are you expecting your first bill to be $72?

That said I am going to head to the Cox retail location tomorrow to try and do a self install. We will see what happens.
Maybe you can make that work. I think it’s highly dependent on what technology you’re going with. When I had them last (a few years ago) they would absolutely not let me install my own cable box; even though they weren’t charging me for it. At that time they claimed that the local store didn’t even have the new boxes, that they were only with the installation team.

I’d love to see your bill and see what they’re charging for what service. If it can all be had for only $140 per month (including box rentals, hd charges, dvr fees ... everything) then I’ll maybe look into for myself.

Damn, $90 for internet?

I’m locked in for life at $55 for 100mbps fiber through CenturyLink. Once I get Hulu I’ll be at $100/mo barring Hulu jacking the price up.

Cox doesn't do 2 year agreements. 12 months, then you'll be getting a much bigger bill.

I just hate negotiating the contract and after the two years is up. It sucks that Cox gives better pricing to new customers over long time ones. I cancelled cable several years ago and honestly haven't really missed it.

Same here. There is so much to watch for free OTA, plus Netflix and Amazon for cheap, that my family doesn't miss cable at all. Actually, with less temptation to channel surf just to see what's on, we find ourselves getting more done and doing more as a family. We only watch TV when we know what we want to watch ahead of time, and we watch it when we want. The cheapest Sling plan gets me through football season.

I understand that some people have shows that they like where the only options are cable or piracy, but at some point the price has to make you consider whether it's really worth watching. Or at least whether it's worth staying up to date with it, because the shows aren't just going to disappear, and they'll end up available for cheap on some service sooner or later.

To the OP, maybe Cox is being straight up with you on pricing considering you're going under contract. But the last time I dealt with them it was month-to-month, and I asked three different ways how much I'd be paying per month after all fees and taxes and was given a price, to the penny, which was around $80. They ended up billing me closer to $100, so I called them and said "frick you" in the nicest possible way and canceled.

I'm on ATT Uverse with gigabit fiber ran directly to my house. I have the 300 channel lineup with free Showtime.

I pay $167 a month after all taxes and fees.

Why do you need all that when you can get it all for free with minimal internet?

I can.

I pay 80 per month. I have tv in every room. I get way more channels. I have DVR of every show that comes on at my finger tips.

I was a TV customer of theirs for 10+ years. I used to call them annually when my promo rate expired and complain about the bill. The usually gave me some kind of deal for 12 months. The last time I called, nada. I cancelled it a few days later.

I'm not really saving a ton with YouTubeTV and internet but the lack of a contract keeps me from going back.

That's close to the plan I have, and my bill is currently $195.54. But, I have a few extra add-ons (Sports package, DVR service, 2 receivers).

I am now in month 18 of 24 with no major changes. My first bill was $178.57, but I added the sports package and an extra receiver since then.

When they did my contract, they spelled out how much my plan would be every month for the full 24 months; if I had no changes.

Did you look at Hulu? $45/mo that includes all sports needed.
I've never looked into cutting the cord yet. My knowledge on offerings are very limited. Hulu has sports? As is the ESPNs SEC network, Fox Sports?

Exact same thing happened to me. They told me it would be $103 something. Got the first bill and it was $117 something. Cancelled strictly out of spite for lying to me.
I tried to get cable with Cox without any equipment but they didn’t let. Why those idiots don’t have a streaming app is beyond me.

Outside of live sports, there’s really no reason whatsoever to have cable. You can watch major network shows on their apps for free, except cbs. Everyone has Netflix and Prime, and everyone is going to get the Disney streaming service as well. Aside from sports, cable is about 90% reruns of sitcoms and movies.
