I've had these energy 5.1 speakers for forever. I've never had any complaints.

Are these decent for a living room set up? Or should I splurge and get a Klipsch set up?

Micca speakers are great. I highly recommend them as they are a good value and you may be able to save some money. I have a pair of the RB42's. They need a decent amplifier to drive them

I really don't know much about audio, but I am strongly considering building some panel speakers similar to these. I will need to hide a sub somewhere, but I love the way these speakers can just blend into the wall. They supposedly sound great, too.

I would try what you have first. Can always change them later

Look at SVS If you're looking to upgrade. Options are limitless with this stuff though.

They really are.

Fun way to decide if you want to upgrade, set up time to go to the nearest Best Buy Magnolia Center and listen to the $200 towers, then listen to the ones next to them, and next to them, and so on. Buy the ones where the dollar and value meet up to you. They may be the ones already sitting in your living room. They may be the KEF blades.

If you are going to splurge get some better speakers than Klipsch. For theater or high level music listening check out PowerSoundAudio and JTR speakers.

energy

Energy is a great company that used to be Canadian.

Not sure who owns them now but they're of Chinese Manufacture origin. Yours may have been made in Canada.

Klipsch has really good speakers for not a ton of money

I personally love Golden Ear Technology.

Depends on taste. I personally don't care for the excess treble. Their RP line is better than previous Klipsch speakers but they are still on the harsh side of things. Most people who move on from Klipsch to brands like JTR, PSA, Revel, ELAC, JBL, Ascend, B&W, etc. don't go back to Klipsch.

Tekton Design

No dealers...direct from manufacturer. They are a bargain, IMHO.

Thanks. Would I need a pro to set those up?

I'd say getting a couple of good subwoofers and learning how to dial them in would be a worthwhile upgrade for sure.

Home theater mixes have lots of bass, so that might be a place that has a big impact versus other places you could spend money.

I’ve thought about their Lore towers in the past but decided to hold off.

Best suggestion yet.

If you want to upgrade then establish a budget and go audition speakers in your price range. Taste in speakers is very subjective. What some here love you may hate.

For instance, I find speakers with metal drivers very harsh and fatiguing. Others swear by then. I prefer silk done tweeters. I also can’t stand horn speakers like Klipsch. While easy to drive at high volumes they lose their detail IMO.

Also, your room has as much of an impact of the performance of the speakers as any other factor.

If he's coming up from Energy speakers I don't know if dual subs is the best next move. I liked the SVS recommendation. If and when I upgrade I'd likely go SVS for both speakers and sub.

Dual subs are always an upgrade if taking the time to learn to align and integrate them properly for the room in question.

You can get a lot more output per $ with brands like Rythmik, PowerSoundAudio, Monolith, HSU, etc. over SVS. The only performance/$ competitive offering from SVS right now is the PB-1000 pro. SVS customer service is top notch though. Probably the best in the business outside of PowerSoundAudio.

You tried listening to the newer Klipsch silicon coated Tractrix horns?

I've got both older and new and there's a pleasurable difference between the two.
