From what I've read theplace has a lot of self improvement books, audio books, etc. IPT has a bit of everything

I wouldn't mind having access to that. I have an IPT invite for anyone who wants to give me a theplace invite.

What's the difference from these websites compared to kat or any other torrent site? Sorry for my ignorance. Just not familiar.

KAT and the like are public trackers. The content on private trackers is much more heavily moderated, so you are less likely to download a fake file, virus, or one of inconsistent/poor quality. It's also significantly safer to seed on a private tracker, whereas public trackers pretty much require a VPN if you let anything seed for more than a few minutes; high-profile content (movies, music, games) is monitored on public trackers by copyright enforcement groups on behalf of the major studios/publishers.

I use KAT every now and then to get books and maybe a movie here and there. I never let it seed after though.
Sounds like the best option to continue this is to get an invite to one of these private trackers to be safe?

Privates are way better for hard to find stuff and for staying safe from the NSA. Biggest difference is that you need to actually maintain a solid seed/leach ratio

I usually just download from Kick arse Torrents. Pretty easy to spot the bad stuff.
What is an advantage to joining a private tracker? I used to use Pirates of the U.K., but no one was ever seeding anything I wanted.
