Print business cards or go digital?

So, I got a new job last month (well, new-old, the company changed the owner and the name; I got a better position) and I need new business cards. I was going to print some, but the new GM suggested considering electronic business cards. Looked into the whole thing a little, seems to me they're not difficult to create and have some advantages. I also read that some people keep both versions, they print an electronic card QR code on a physical card. I am under the impression that there are still (potential) clients out there who would prefer an old-school paper card. Leaning toward the option of sharing both and at the same time I'm not even sure if I should include electronic cards at all. I would love to hear about your choice - paper or digital business card and why. I guess we have members of different generations and all kinds of industries/jobs here (I am in Sales), so it's a good sample to help me figure out how to proceed on this one.

Printed business cards are a relic. Any that I receive go straight to the garbage. If I want the contact info, we trade texts or sometimes I’ll use LinkedIn. My company went to the NFC digital cards which are sorta cool, but I never use it.

I like having paper business cards to quickly hand off to potential clients. If you’re in sales or frequent conferences and trade shows, paper cards are still very much used. If I’ve already built a relationship with someone we just swap contact info via text.

It really depends on your industry. When I go to trade shows/conferences, it is all about the digital cards. Even when people exchange the print cards, they have someone automatically putting the info into their database.
But the other side of that is ever governmental body we work with (4 different ones on a regular basis), are all still old school and want the print cards. Some actually ask for them.

I'm currently re-doing my cards and I'm doing both.
My paper cards will have the QR on the back (so old people I deal with don't get confused).
I will have the metal card to tap phones with people who randomly ask me for my card.

Thank you all, I guess that's settled then - I'll be sharing both. I suspected there are still people that prefer getting a paper card, so I won't risk it. I will print the QR code on them too, though, why not. I read the piece on the best digital business card reviews and I'll most likely pick one of these solutions.

disqualify hard. keep your status.

They've started making apps available for larger conferences so that if you meet someone, you exchange QR codes and add a quick note. The info stays in the app's folder for each specific event and can be downloaded into a .csv file for upload into a CRM.

Never seen the digital card thing. So hows that work if you met with 3-4 new people? You have to get everyone's number and text them your digital card? I'm mid 30's in the IT field, but I just don't see the appeal. Even if all I need to do was scan some card, I'm already aggravated. Call me old school, but I like getting and giving a card. It's quick, it's easy, you don't want it, toss it.
So to answer your question, I'd much rather just get a paper card. I'd either not save the digital card, or completely forget your name thus rendering the card useless. If I see the paper card on my desk, I'd remember the interaction better.

NFC, touch phones shaft to shaft, not tip to tip…or scan it from the person when they present QR code or such…is my understanding

Getting more mixed opinions makes me think I've made the right decision to keep the paper version but share both. I really appreciate it, thank you all one more time. Now, I wouldn't completely dismiss digital ones, For example, the solution I picked offers the option of adding 20+ links to social media. So content writers or social media marketers can easily create an online portfolio and make the card their CV or embed the card's QR code on the actual CV. Or you can share it as an Apple Wallet pass, also handy. Let's see how it goes, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

There will always be a large percentage of people that will want a card and refuse to use new technology.
Are you in a tech-forward industry? If not, you’ll rub some people the wrong way by having electronic only.

Many of these digital business cards charge a "monthly" subscription fee. I call BS on that. There are plenty without the monthly fee.

I keep a silver case with me to hold mine. Mine are a tasteful thickness with a coloring called bone. And the lettering is something called Silian Rail. I’m even considering adding a watermark.
