Is there a huge difference in picture quality? I see a LG OLED 65" for $1900 at Sams. I can get QLED for $1200-1400 I think give or take. I don't have the prices in front of me at the moment so maybe the QLED price was a 75" not sure. I am replacing a 60" so either size will be an upgrade for us and 75" is as big as my living room can handle. Either way is it a big upgrade to the OLED? I am not opposed to spending the extra money if there's a big difference. Both pictures looked really good in the store.

On another note are both big upgrades from the 4K UHD tv's that are going for 650-850 in 65-75 inch models for most part? The eye test told me they were a lot nicer/crisper video, but it could be the whole placebo affect of me looking at the higher prices and thinking they must be better. TIA

Be careful you don't buy a set that forces you into watching commercials.

Short answer-- if you watch mostly Sports go QLED, otherwise, OLED has a better picture.

Thanks. Id say what I watch is about 50-50 sports vs shows/movies. But we def watch a lot of sports. Is it a big difference there? I may go do the eye test one more time at best buy or one of those places that has them all side by side. The thing about those places is you know they're showing you whatever its best suited for. So I assume they'll have sports highlights on the QLED's and a movie of some sort on the OLED.

HDTV Test YouTube OLED vs QLED

I dont understand the sports comment, OLED is superior with motion vs QLED

OLED is basically superior except in brightness. So if you are putting this in a very bright room you probably should consider the QLED.

I prefer QLED because of the higher peak brightness which is important with HDR, Dolby Vision, etc...

That review said the Q90T doesn't support Dolby Vision which I found pretty crazy.

I don't think Samsung supports Dolby Vision because they have a competing standard.

A lot of the Sony Triluminous TV's (their version of QLED) do support Dolby Vision.

I have the Sony X900F 75 in and it is awesome.

I haven't been in the market for a TV in about 3 years now. I have a Samsung in my living room with lots of natural light. Great for sports but the clouding bothers me at night. I haven't felt the need to upgrade or change though. Just found the review interesting.

Yes it is. They boxes phone home via several domains and put commercials on the TV that you cannot override easily.

One way around it is to block the IP addresses in your router; that way the TV can't phone home to determine what/when it's supposed to display an ad. My guess is that they manufactures will find a way around this pretty quickly.

Add that to the fact that most modern TV's automatically download updates, you may be forever chasing that particular issue.

Manufacturers claim that these ads keep the price of the TV artificially low by pushing some of the cost to the advertisers. I call horse shite on that one.

I don't recall the reasoning, but when I was in the market everything sports related was pushing the QLED, but it was a close call. In the end, I went with the QLED because I have a lot of natural light where the TV was going.

OP, in addition to putting an eye test on it at the store you can go to rtings, or a similar site, and punch in the models. They will give you their rating scale (maybe even a comparison video) and tell you their pros & cons.

Pretty easy to just not connect the TV to the internet. Apps on most of these TVs go to shite in a few years anyways. Dedicated streaming boxes are 99% superior.

That being said, I do understand your point and it sucks all around. However, basically every TV manufacturer is starting to place ADs on the home screens.

Only way to stop it is to not allow it to connect to the internet unless you are updating the firmware

We have an ancient tradition called curtains. Bright light is a viewing screen killer. There's a reason why theaters are dark inside. Our curtains block out most of the sunlight and we have them drawn when we are watching TV; otherwise we open them.
As such, OLED is our logical choice and definitely has superior picture quality (deep dark blacks and rich colors). Frankly, we don't like an overly bright screen as it contributes to eye strain.
