What do you really need today for hooking up TV's on a wall? Cat6, RG6, Electricity?
Do you need HDMI down the wall in case of box or DVD/DVR, etc?

I have to make decisions soon, and I'm so unsure of what I need to have installed at each wall location.

Not planning any special audio or sound needs, will likely do a sound bar in a couple of rooms, so need cabling for that or at least the ability to pull wires between wall and floor connections.

I would spend an extra $40-$50 and put an in-wall surge protector in for power.

I also had a dedicate 20amp circuit put in but you won't need that unless you go full home theater.

The surge protector is a nice touch. Running cables down the wall after the fact is not a big deal. If these was something during construction that I would say is a priority, it would be adding blocking in the wall where you might mount TVs. It's nice just driving lag bolts right where you want and hanging a TV.

If it's a "forever" home, run conduit drops from your attic into the coax/media wall box. That way, whenever you need to add or change something, you can wire it in 5 minutes.

My biggest regret in my house was no putting in a propane tank (no NG).

My 2nd biggest regret is not running conduit down to my entertainment center.

You need cat 6 cable runs terminated into a patch panel in some kind of utility closet.

I would put drops everywhere. Even the ceiling. That was you can add APs or PoE camera down the line.

I'm planning to. Hoping for 2 drops where TV mounts on wall, one at base with HDMI between them.
At least one data drop in each room, including two in closets for AP's, one on each side of the house. Another on the porch, and under screened deck for exterior AP.

It is. And I'm planning for a conduit to the attic to the Media closet, and one from the service entrance to the media closet.

Whatever way you go, use a double gang box and run 3/4 smurf tube to the attic / crawl space or whatever you have. If you can get two per box even better. You will always be able to add or remove wires easily as things change. Get an in wall structures wiring cabinet and go as big as you can on multiple conduits from the attic / crawl space to it and put at least one ac outlet module in it.

Even if the boxes will not be used now put a few where you might need them in the future, you can run the wiring now or just leave the smurf tube empty until needed. I didn’t do that in my office and I really want to move my tv, but there is a bedroom above and I’d have to do some drywall surgery on the wall and ceiling to move it now.

Dedicated circuit wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I met with the electrician today.

For wall mounted TV's with a junction box at standard outlet height for wiring both high and low, he only normally runs one cat6 to the lower box. I was asking him about running one to each box, but he thought it was a waste of money, as the TV's would be able to connect wireless. The connection would be for any satellite box. He said he would be glad to run a 2nd cable, one to each location for $35 for each 2nd run.

I'm sort of thinking one is enough, if I need one high and low I could also put in a small gigabit switch, and then have more ports and run one up to the wall mount.

What do you guys think, only one run per location or two?

Eff that. You don't want to do wireless if you can have it wired.

I have fiber coming into a closet to my router and a switch. From that switch, I have runs to 2 WAPS, a run to my office, a run to the porch, and a run to my AV cabinet in the living room.

In my AV Cabinet, I have my TV, FireTV, XBox, PS4, BluRay, Receiver, Nintendo, etc... all going into a switch in that cabinet.

Yeah, I get it. The other comment he made was that many satellite boxes are now wireless, so one cat6 to a TV location could be for the TV.

I'm not sure I'm even going to do satellite, but streaming and if so, I would then only need one I think.

I don't know, just asking for opinions before it's too late. I could also do two to only certain locations where I know we will use the most, and/or buy some cat6 and run them myself and not pay him to do it.
