Thanks for the update! It is much better getting updates here instead of the Reddit thread.

I sent a follow up email to the "privacy@spaceX" address since that was the only one I could find.
I've received several emails in the last hour for shipping for a new system and answers with RMA #'s and how to box and return the old system upon arrival of the new one.
That's about it.
Hopefully it gets here this week, I've already paid my first bill

ETA: They just credited a month's service. So far, they are doing the right things, I just wish it wasn't a 24 hour wait for an answer, kind of a deal breaker for me to rely on as my primary connection.

Im in Lake Charles and got my email this week. Trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger or not... $500 hardware fee up front, and $100 monthly. But apparently that is the "beta testing" rate and monthly fee could go up in the future??

I'm trying to find out when AT&T fiber will be installed and then make my decision on Starlink.

FedEx for the Baton Rouge area is complete garbage.
Its as if they hire only people that the USPS rejects.
I've had packages stolen by them in the last 3 years. They get to BR and "on a truck for delivery" then, poof, no one can find it.
It's like their personal free shopping spree.

It's pretty bad in the rural Panhandle too. My Starlink shipped from California on Feb. 3. It was supposed to be here yesterday. When I checked the status yesterday there was no information after it left California. Last night they emailed to say it will come today. Then this morning a new email says tomorrow and it's in Georgia.

Heh - and now an email says it's back to today.

(maybe).

ETA: - And now another email and it's tomorrow. so in less than 24 hours they've had me at 3 different delivery days with 4 changes.

My replacement system is now scheduled to be delivered saturday, the day that FedEx ALWAYS shows "on truck for delivery" and they never show up.
I've wasted several Saturdays waiting on deliveries that I needed that never came.

Mine is now showing out for delivery today.

Has anybody used a wireless bridge with the new Starlink router to connect it to a wired network? Basically turn the WiFi signal from the router into a wired signal for the existing network. If so, any recommendations for a device with a ethernet port until the adapter comes in?

Heh, and 30 minutes after the email saying the delivery would be the following day the Starlink box showed up. Fedex emails seem to be completely unrelated to the actual delivery.

I had real problems for the first day, I think for two reasons. First, there was just too much blocked sky. It didn't look like all that bad a location . But I couldn't get internet at all(does it take 8+ hours to start working?). Secondly it tells me to turn off the VPN when I connect with the phone, and won't let the phone connect with my VPN on. It took a little while to figure out how to turn it off since it's company installed VPN.

This morning I hit the hardware store and mounted it on top of a 10 foot pole that gets it higher than the bottom of the roof. Maybe 7 feet higher in the same spot. I had planned on using 2.5 inch schedule 40 pipe since I thought the dish would be fairly big and I wanted something really sturdy. But I'm surprised how small and light it is. I found that 1.5 inch EMT conduit is almost the perfect size to slip the dish into (square dish). The conduit opening is just slightly larger and allowed a tiny wobble which I fixed by wrapping teflon tape around the dish pipe bottom a few time. I cancelled the pipe adapter which I had ordered.

ETA - 158 mbps download, 13 mbps upload, that's with it only functioning properly for a few hours. Century Link router - 0.55 mbps download, 0.28 mbps upload. Cool.

Got mine up and running yesterday, but made some adjustments today.

Reused my old DirectTV mount, but had to modify it to make it work until the Starlink pipe adapter comes in. Removed DTV pipe clamp and made sleeve from 1.5” PVC and wrapped with duct tape.

Ran the wire through the soffit and into the attic. Unfortunately, the stupid proprietary connector is huge and didn’t fit through the conduit into my media closet. I had to drill some new holes through the top plate.

Once I got it hooked up and online, it worked great. Took about 10-15 mins to lock on and get decent speeds. Router was okay, but definitely a drop off in coverage over whole house.

So I decided to use a router as a Wireless Bridge to connect it into my network. This should cover me until the ethernet adapter comes in.

My setup is now as follows:

Starlink Dish -> Starlink Router -> WiFi -> Bridge Router -> Network Switches -> UniFi AP (3) -> WiFi

Works pretty well. Haven’t noticed a drop off in my checks against the WiFi through the bridge vs direct to Starlink.

I bought a Netgear R6850 for $70 to serve as the Bridge (and future DHCP handling when Starlink in bypass mode).

Typical speed:

It's too late now, since you already drilled a new hole, but the end that plugs into the dish would have fit through that conduit.

Yes, but I already had the dish mounted and secured and the wires fished through the soffit and attic. Wasn’t worth undoing all that work to fish it the other way. Plus it’s a lot harder to try to push the wire up the conduit vs down.

Starlink Loses up to 40 satellites to solar flare BY JENNIFER LEMAN
FEB 9, 2022(popular mechanics .com)

"SpaceX has lost nearly all of the Starlink satellites it launched last week due to a solar storm, according to a February 8 statement from the company."

"also worked with the Space Force's 18th Space Control Squadron—which monitors Earth's orbit for possible collisions from their California headquarters at Vandenberg Space Force Base—and the California-based space junk tracking firm LeoLabs to scan the disabled satellites' orbit using ground-based radar.

"Preliminary analysis show the increased drag at the low altitudes prevented the satellites from leaving safe-mode to begin orbit raising maneuvers, and up to 40 of the satellites will reenter or already have reentered the Earth's atmosphere," SpaceX said in its statement."

Installed and working great. Speeds are 100x better than my crappy CenturyTel trash. At the end of this month I'm gonna punt their shite back to them. Thank you Elon!
