My phone just started using 5G+ and it’s painfully slow

Last week I noticed that websites were taking 20-30 seconds to load and trying to text photos were taking over a minute and then failing. I noticed that I’m on 5G+. It’s damn near making my phone unusable. I can’t connect to the App Store without it asking to retry. YouTube buffers. It’s driving me fricking crazy. I can’t seem to Google it because all the search engines think I’m trying to concatenate my search terms and strips the plus out. Even when I put it in quotes. Someone please tell me there’s a fix for this.

I'm not sure what 5G Plus is, but I was having the same issues on 5G. I went and got a new SIM card and it fixed the issue.

Not sure if related but I traveled over to Prairieville today and I have full 5 bars and my phone cannot even play a twitter video. Websites taking 20-30 seconds to load.

T-Mobile on 5G UC works great.
"T-Mobile has announced that it’ll be rolling out a new “5G UC” icon on the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup to let customers know when they’re connected to T-Mobile’s “5G Ultra Capacity” network."

I did the same thing about a year ago. Much faster.

I got the new iPhone SE a few months ago which has 5G and internet has sucked since then. Just switched to LTE in settings as per your suggestion, hoping for improvement

You can test it using the speedtest.net app.
Download from the App Store.
Run your speed test on 5G - note your results.
Then set your phone to LTE and run the test again.
I have an iPhone 13 Pro on iOS16.
My test on LTE results in 50 mbps.
My test on 5G didn't even complete because it was so terrible.
Crazy.

I just did that test.
My 5G was double that of LTE only.
Now, AT&T has a few flavors of 5G.
5G+ which is what is rolling out right now using the old Cband signals
5G is regular 5G on cellular bands
5Ge is AT&T’s fake 5G that is a variant of LTE that uses more frequencies to get a faster signal.
When I switched my phone to LTE, the 5Ge came up on my phone.
Verizon has its own 5G code words for its variants. One of them is Ultra wide band, that uses frequencies in the mmWave bands in the 28 and 39 GHz spectrum.
The big issue is that anything above a few GHz cannot penetrate walls or buildings well.
I have seen the 5G+ network on At&t start to pop up on my phone in downtown Houma. I saw it this weekend, but it is not active now. They may be still testing. I know areas around Lockport and Matthews have it lit up.
What find crazy is that if you live in Lockport and Matthews and do not have access to AT&T fiber, and are forced to get cable internet from Rev, your cellular speeds are faster than what Rev can provide on the download (100Mbps) and upload (3 Mbps) speed on cable. Rev is in the process of rolling out fiber to home, which will beat the pants off any cellular connection.
The one downfall of Rev’s plans is that they are running most of their residential lines above the ground. They did not learn their lesson from Ida and now Ian.
After Hurricane Betsy, their predecessor Latelco laid their entire infrastructure under ground after that storm destroyed their entire network. It was one of the first phone companies in the nation to complete that task.

I'm getting less than 1 mbps with this new 5ge bullshite.
Don't think I can turn it off either.

Sorry to hijack, but I’m in Mathews with no fiber yet. Any idea on when rev will be offering fiber to home? I’m on the edge of Lockport/Mathews off Hwy. 1 fwiw.

I have noticed zero difference with 5g on Verizon.

With Verizon regular 5g is no better than LTE. But when my phone shows 5G UW of the Cband variant it's crazy fast.
