My Credit Card Gets Stolen About Once Every 2 Years

Just caught it again today. Someone set up a secondary Hulu account using my card. Just caught it today after being double charged by Hulu for 4 months.
Does this happen to anyone else? Have their card compromised so often?
Super annoying and I'm not entirely sure what to do.

Interesting that your creditor doesn't notify you of the double charge and ask you if it's legit immediately. Mine does.

It happens quite often to me, but maybe every 5 or 6 years. Not a big deal as my CC Company usually catches anything suspicious and I look at the charges on each statement.

Yeah, around the same frequency. Credit Card company always catches it before I do though.
Every 2-3 years I also have people trying to open credit card accounts with my info. Those also always get flagged before being processed.

Yes it happens to me every few years.
My theory is it happens at restaurants when they take your card.
I have no proof.

This could easily be fixed if U.S. CCs had a chip & pin system like in Europe. Also in Europe, the waiter is not allowed to touch your card (although in practice they sometimes do), they bring the CC machine to your table and you insert your card and then you input your pin #. this has cut down drastically on CC fraud in Europe.

The charge was a different amount than what I normally pay so it didn’t flag it.

Oddly enough, I never had this problem until CCs starting using the chip. I will have at least 1 of mine stolen every 2-3 years; although my cards usually catch it pretty quick.

I've had one stolen at Walmart, it was a brand new card and used only once so the extra charge was easy to track, no one else was in the line so it had to the cashier, guess she enjoyed that coat and purse she charged to me, but at least the cc removed the charge.

My cc company calls me and catches it quick. Happened 2x to me and they were easy to deal with, only had to wait a day or two with no card.

I found out from experience that if you have an AmEx, and the card info is stolen, AmEx does not necessarily shut down the stolen number.
I had info stolen in 2016, notified AmEx, and had a card with a new number shipped out.
Earlier this year, the 2016 card number was used (twice!) on bogus Amazon accounts that were set up using my name. And the charges weren't denied - I had to call Amazon to try to have the sales blocked, then call AmEx to ask why the number was still active and accepted.

Amex has been really good about suspected fraudulent charge. I use a different card for each thing, Amex will set up as many accounts as you ask for that can be allocated from a credit line pool. Since we do a lot of online shopping, PayPal charges go on one card, amazon on another, gas and groceries on another, etc... much easier to track and watch. Only takes a minute to scan each at the end of the month and pay the balance off.
