Microsoft Outlook

Hello,

Use Microsoft 365 for outlook. Staring last week i'm not able to send or receive ALL emails. Some are being received and sent but not all. I'm getting no failures messages. Check my junk folder, etc. Not seeing anything in there.

I didn't change any settings. Any ideas of how to fix?

Have you tried logging into m365 website and checking email from there, cause sounds like your being specific about an issue with outlook client

If you are paying for Office 365 you get free tech support from MS. Bug them, they'll fix it.

Is anyone still having outlook outages? Our company email has been unable to receive messages all day. I’m told the problem has been reported.

I manage the Office 365 subscriptions for my company. I am not a tech wizard, but know more than the average boomer. We are having an issue that may be the same as yours, definitely similar.

We have 20+ subscriptions to Microsoft Exchange. We all have Outlook on our desktops. For some reason we have 2 accounts that will not connect to send/receive. Outlook keeps asking for a password and no matter how many times we enter it, the window keeps popping up. Those 2 users have to stay logged in to the web version, and it is very cumbersome.

The settings/subscriptions for these 2 users are exactly the same as everyone else. I have uninstalled completely and reinstalled Outlook. Sometimes it will work for a day or so, then back to "Needs Password." Our IT company can't figure it out, and Google doesn't help much.

Anyone here have any ideas?

Here's a procedure I came up with that solves some of these types of issues. Some of these steps would likely be considered a bit advanced, and you may want to involve IT if you're not comfortable doing them:

* Delete and create a new mail profile in Control Panel using the Mail applet. Delete Outlook Profile

* If the machine is part of an Active Directory domain:

- On the user’s machine, run whoami /user in a command window to get the user’s Active Directory SID.

- Run regedit as an administrator.

- Navigate to HKEY_USERS->{ SID}->Software->Microsoft->Office->16.0->Common->Identity->Identities.

- Delete all subfolders under the main Identities folder.

- Close regedit.

- In Windows Settings, search Work and then navigate to Access work or school. Disconnect any profiles that are connected.

- Open Outlook and setup the account again.


* If the machine is not part of an Active Directory domain:

- Pretty much the same procedure as above, but there's no domain SID required, so skip the first SID step. On the registry delete step, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Microsoft->Office->16.0->Common->Identity->Identities instead of the path mentioned in the domain procedure. Also skip the Windows Setting step.

Have you had the 2 affected users try from different computers? Assuming they have only tried from “their” respective computers. Have you tried accessing from one of the affected users’ computers?

Make sure office 365 is going to the correct autodiscover that is if 365 is not your email provider. Sometimes outlook looks to 365 1st as email provider and doesn't go to another provider if you have a hosted email through different provider. There is a registry hack that can fix it if thats the problem. Also I think Ms has a fix it to download and run if that's the problem.

We run our own Exchange server so 365 is outside my experience base. Are you guys running Active Directory (to manage computer logins)? If so, is that tied into 365?

I ask because we have 90-day mandatory password changes and will generally see this sort of thing when people have had to change their passwords but forget to change them on their phones (for those who have their work emails set up on their phones).

Also, is the login through a web interface or are they using a local client? If the latter, does it have a cached mode? We find issues with Exchange cache, every now and then it can manifest as an email issue but it's more often that the address book isn't updating correctly.

I just got off the phone with a friend who has had a similar issue. He has his own work website and has emails coming through it, all hosted by GoDaddy. It seems GoDaddy is migrating from Workspace to Office 365 and while it's not supposed to take effect until tomorrow (at least that was the timeline my friend had gotten in an old email), it seems they've done at least something to impact email service already.

If this applies to you, try logging in through webmail.

BTW, my first response to a lot of Outlook issues is to delete the .ost file and let the server rebuild it, that solves about 50% of the issues immediately. Then try jdd48's checklist.
