I have been using the Google Nest Wifi for about 1 week now. So far, so good with no deadspots in house, garage, or patio area.

My desktop computer is hardwired to the Nest Router. I have used www.speedtest.net to check internet speed on my desktop and it matches the speed I expect which is ~150 Mbps d/l.

I am interested in knowing the internet speed of my iPhone when its connected via wifi to one of the Nest Access Points. If I download the Speedtest app on my iPhone and run it from my iPhone while connected to the Nest Access Point, are the results telling me the internet speed to my iPhone or are they telling me the internet speed to the router? The reason I'm asking is because I basically get the same speeds on my iPhone when its connected to a Nest Point as that of my desktop computer hardwired to the Nest Router.

Haven't seen anyone recommend the Amplifi system by Ubiquiti so I will. Put it in my house in March and have been very happy. I have also heard good things about Google's so don't think either would be a bad choice.

As for the AT&T comments, I also have their fiber and solved the problem this way:

Plug new router into AT&T router. Using DHCP, get an IP from AT&T for new router.

Turn off crappy AT&T wifi.

In my Amplifi, turn on DHCP using a new scheme (172.16.x.x instead of 192.168.x.x, for example).

Connect everything to the new Amplifi network. Since nothing but the Amplifi router is connected to AT&T, there really is only one network...your new one.

Profit? Good luck.

Good to hear. What all equipment do you have? I ended up using existing wiring to have 3 in wall APs and a AP in the attic for good coverage across the house and outside by the back pool with a POE switch and everything for ~$400 including tax.

I bought the Amplifi HD mesh system. Comes with the router and two remote stations. Covers my house (2500 sq ft and both yards) great. Bought it from the Sams website for $330 but don't see it on their website anymore.

I was going to go with Ubiquiti, might still for cameras, but my nephew works at BB and was able to get me the wifi6 orbi setup for a good price, so I went with that.

I'm having ATT install on Friday. The plan is to turn off wifi on their router, and hope they have a passthru option. I hope the tech is up on how to configure stuff.

I came to this thread to say I got this same system as well for our new house and I haven't been disappointed. I still need to see the most optimal places to put my satellites but I've been impressed. Our house is just under 2000 sqft so 2 satellites may be over kill but I'm about it.

I came from a standard router in my old home and this is night and day.

It’s really not about turning off the WiFi on the ATT gateway. That’s pretty easy. It’s about taking the routing function from the gateway and letting your new router handle it. Earlier, someone mentioned creating a new network (172.xxx instead of 192...). I can do this, but I think turning off DHCP on the gateway, giving the router a static 192 address, and letting the router do the DHCP addressing with the 192 address limited, would probably work better. Any thoughts on that? I feel like my router could handle the processing better than the ATT gateway.

Eero Pro is great. I set them up years ago and have only had to reboot either of them once or twice.

I'm happy with my Asus aimesh but it's not really the best solution for anyone looking to plug and play.

Bestbuy

What do y’all think about this one? Anyone have experience with it? Looks like you can add nodes to it if needed.

It's just going on the app and turning a router into a aimed node

I love my Asus routers

Well, things went mostly smooth, but I'm not sure if I have an issue or not.

As far as the ATT tech, he knew what he was doing with regard to getting the fiber in the house and to my media panel, but really didn't know anything about config options for performance.

I got my Orbi hooked up, updated firmware, and got the satellites connected, that was all pretty easy (satellites are wireless currently, but I am going to hard wire them later this week).

I have the BGW210-700 modem from ATT, I think that is pretty standard for them. I did configure it for pass thru mode and from the app on the orbi internet speed test I'm getting 900+ both down and up speeds.

However, wired from my laptop connected to orbi router directly I'm getting between 350-500 down, and 900+ up. Wireless on same laptop is about 175 down and up consistently. The laptop is about 5 years old. This is using speedtest.net. I actually downloaded their windows app, and ran it and it showed better speeds, like 700 down, so I'm not sure what to trust and what not to trust.

I'm unsure of the overhead of the Orbi router, but all of the settings I could find to turn on to increase performance are on. The app doesn't show beam forming or MU-MIMO as options to turn on, just a selection for "Enable AX Features", which I assume would be an update to those settings. I'm not sure if I should be expecting higher speeds or not.

I'm running which is good, but now to try to increase speeds to max throughput.
