I don't need anything fancy. I saw an EYY Laptop on Prime that has everything in need but I am not familiar with the brand. What is the tech boards opinion of the brand?

It looks like a Surface knock off. Go to Best Buy and touch a flat keyboard like that one to see if you can tolerate it. Never heard of EYY, but Amazon also suggested similar items from brands we know, like Acer, which appear to be cheaper.

I'm not familiar with EYY. That doesn't mean it's bad, per se, but I have never seen or used one.

What kind of work do you do?

How much value would you get out of a laptop vs a desktop or mini pc?

What are your workstation space considerations?

Will you use an external monitor if you use the laptop, or is that something that is unimportant?

I believe it's an Australian company.

It's fits my needs. I am more concerned about the brand and I should have mentioned security because I have access to a lot if my clients sensitive information.

ETA. I definitely need a laptop. I spend most if my time outside of my office.

Go to DeluxePCs.com and buy there. I use them all the time.

You need to find a place to buy from that you can bring the computer into once a month to check it for malware. This is concerning. Who am I fooling, you'll probably email a PDF with customer SSNs unencrypted anyway.

I have encryption but I get why you are saying that.

I have access to the information. It's not stored on my computer but having it checked for malware is a good idea.

Wait. You have access to sensitive client info, are about to buy some wonky thing on Amazon, and don’t have at least a 2hr/month IT consultant on retainer?

EYY appears to be a private label brand. They likely contract an OEM in China, to produce white-label laptops. The OEM handles manufacturing and can customize branding (logo, packaging) for bulk orders, typically 500–1000 units minimum. EYY arranges for the units to be shipped directly to Amazon's fulfillment centers (FBA). Amazon handles warehousing, order processing, and shipping to the customer.

EYY is responsible for maintaining the product listing and handling returns or warranty issues, but in practice, many of these sellers offer minimal or no post-sale support. Amazon provides a standard 30-day return window, but outside of that, you should not expect meaningful customer service or warranty coverage from EYY.

Is there a way to tell how old these laptops are (or how old the processors are)? I guess if it comes with co-pilot it can't be that old (although maybe they can add it to an old laptop). I want 24 RAM instead of the 16 standard, and that usually means a steep price. But some of these prices seem ridiculously low.

A lot of laptops on Amazon are sold by shady third-parties, so make sure you review the seller before pulling the trigger.

Thank you for the input. One of the reviews I saw said he was hacked by China the day he got it set up.

I am going to stick to the brands I know.

Good idea, since it's for work.

I'm of the opinion that many of the reasons PCs are cheap is they come pre-loaded with a lot of software (spyware.)

Whichever brand you purchase, make sure you give it a good once over and uninstall any apps you will not use. I guess you could also opt to do a clean windows install and do a minimalist install.

Yeah, just search for the model number of the laptop / processor.

Could you post what you do or who you work for ? I'd be inclined to avoid working with or recommending someone who would buy something for their business based on a sales price

I don't really have a budget per se. I will spend what I have to spend.

I am in the market and saw a brand that was unfamiliar at a very low price. I was more curious than anything and I thought Iwould ask the Tech board about it. Thank's for all of the input.

I recently bought a good specs Lenovo refurb off of Amazon at a really great price. Sure it's a refurb but so what? It comes with a 90 day warranty and Amazon takes returns no hassle. And it's all electronics these days, no moving hard drive to go bad. If anything is wrong with it you'll probably know right away and can return it.
