So I won't buy Lenovo again.

I've used two Lenovos for work as a BYOD device for a decade. First one was perfectly fine until about five years in, when the fans stopped working. I was perfectly pleased with the service life of both.

17" laptops are *big.* I'm biased, because I buy ultrabooks (usually about 13", about 3 pounds) to travel with, but sticking a kid with a 6-7 pound laptop may not age well. My theory is just to buy a monitor at Costco and plug the laptop into it when college kids are at their own pad.

This is 16", her last one was 15.6", but the new one had slightly smaller dimensions than her last one. This one is 4.58 lbs, so it is not as heavy as her last one, either.
