I'm still using an old computer running Win 7.

I use Kaspersky and have been for the past 5 years. It is as solid as they come for detection and updates.

Windows 7 went end-of-life and is no longer receiving security updates. If you're concerned about security, you won't use it. Windows 10 is a free upgrade by downloading the Media Creation Tool if your computer can handle it. If your computer can't handle it, save your anti-virus money and buy a cheap new computer.

New computers are great but re-installation of a bunch of software part of that deal for me. So, I will use my computer until it breaks.

If you want to buy anything buy Malwarebytes real time protection.....but in today’s age Windows Defender is good for most people.
The real thing to do is be cognizant of websites you visit, emails you open, and use hard passwords and MFA (if possible)for all your logins

This. I think it's hilarious the anti virus companies became some of the biggest malware/spammer threats out there. I can't believe people still use that shite. Every single one of them.

So is your computer not good enough to run Windows 10 (which is free) or are you just dragging your feet on change? There is no good reason to be running Windows 7 anymore on your main machine and you certainly shouldn't be investing money in security software for it when you wouldn't have to if you upgraded.
If you have some kind of special Windows 7 software requirements then now would be a good time to image your hard drive so you can run it in a sandboxed (non-internet connected) virtual machine on a Windows 10 or Linux system. The Tech Board would even help you do it.
If you don't and are just being lazy/resistant to change then you're playing with fire when it comes to system security. You might be just fine in the end or you might end up part of a botnet. Good luck! (eta: keep a backup!)

Yes, I am backing up my hard drive.
I intend to continue to use Webroot for the time being for Anti virus software.
This idea of yours has given me pause. I'll have to give this some thought.
Thanks.

I use ESET on my main desktop. Everything else is on Windows Defender.

Windows defender is pretty decent now.

Do you not want to reinstall programs, or are you running programs that won't work with Windows 10?
Because upgrading from 7 to 10 is non-destructive, so there's nothing stopping you from just popping that drive (or a clone of it) into a newer computer. With that said, if your computer is so old that it legit can't run Windows 10, I'm surprised you can get the thing to boot at all.

An OS reaching the end of it's lifespan *is* essentially breaking your computer.
