Just get TeamViewer, it's easier to set up, you get complete remote access and you can transfer files.

It may actually be more than a file or two.

I use PIA as well. Reasons I use VPN:

1) To secure my connection when using public/hotel wifi on my mobile devices.
2) To get past location based blocking when streaming from various sites.
3) Hide my IP address

I just got Kodi & Exodus... Should I look into getting a VPN service like ExpressVPN? What's the risk in not getting it?

I use ExpressVPN due to content filtering at work. If I get kicked off or disconnected, my ip is still anonymous until VPN is reconnected automatically.

Its more along the lines if you are downloading the movies or TV shows to hdd. Your ISP can track certain files. Most Disney movies have trackers so your ISP can be notified and tell you to remove the file before your internet is back on. You stick it on the ext hdd and remove the torrent from your pc and you are good to go. A VPN would eliminate them tracking it to your ip address. Im sure you can run Kodi with no problems without the VPN.

i currently use PIA.

are there any other vpn's that have found a workaround to Netflix and other streaming services that block your access if they detect a proxy server?

would love to have access to UK netflix again.

A vpn is not just for illegal activity. If you are connecting to any public wifi without a vpn you are just asking for trouble. Personally I have a vpn server setup at my house so I am always tunneled through my home isp.

I've been using NordVPN. Customer service is great, however I keep getting disconnected every time when I am download a torrent file from a P2P server (when not downloading torrent, but connected to VPN, I stay connected to P2P server).

I have followed every recommendation that customer service has provided to me and unfortunately nothing is working. This is happening on two computers that I own.

I use the built-in kill switch and it shuts down uTorrent and/or Deluge, however my entire internet connection goes down as well (have to restart computer in order to restore internet service to my computer).

If I go with PIA or Express VPN, can someone assure me that disconnects are infrequent?

NordVPN

This is who I plan on going with as well after watching this video on YouTube comparing PIA, NordVPN and ExpressVPN. It's ~12 minutes long and compares them using number of accessible countries, data retention with hosting country laws, encryption, cost and additional benefits such as proxies and VPN over Tor (which NordVPN provides 6000+ proxies as part of the service and VPN over TOR).

I watched that video and it helped push me over the edge to choose them. The application that I use is great. Customer service is great. Unfortunately, I keep getting disconnected. Could be me? Or may not be. It's happening to two computers of mine ... and I never lose service with my internet provider (EATEL).

Running out of ideas except to switch?

Hey Will. I don't understand this whoer.net thing. It has my anonymity at 90%, but when you look at the left it has all my info shown. How am I anonymous 90% when in fact they have everything correct. When I use my VPN the percentage drops. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I also use NordVPN, and it keeps dropping me too, it's quiet annoying.

This is all that should matter, unless you are worried about your identity when not using VPN?

Make sure you run a test on DNSleaktest as well. NordVPN provided me with an alternative way of connecting to one of their P2P servers, however it left my DNS potentially exposed. I caught it with DNSleaktest and corrected the problem before I decided to do anything that could have potentially got me in trouble.

I use VPN for different reasons probably, but I've been all over the Middle East and not been dropped with ExpressVPN. Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, and others and never an issue.

I have a Netgear R7000 and prior to this one, I had a TRENDnet TRU827.

Ended up switching to PIA. So far, so good. Only one drop in several days.
