In 2021, you can do this with literally anything.

Just buy her something she will be comfortable with. Likely something with a big screen and is as similar to what she's currently using as possible. Don't complicate things.

Thank you.

I will say that the Anything she chooses to pay bills on is a laptop.

Reason I said that is she doesn’t need msOffice.

Is there any need over a Chromebook that a laptop fulfills?

Lots, but none of which will impact paying bills and emailing. With that said, what does your mother use to do those tasks? If she tends to do them all in a browser, then I doubt it will matter much. But if she's used to using her desktop, a shift to a Chromebook could be frustrating (assuming she's roughly as cantankerous regarding tech as the average 80 year old).

Out of curiosity, what is she currently using (make, model, OS), and why are you upgrading her?

sorry. Not sure.

But it’s been dropped roughly 10 times and is now swollen…..no lie.

Will an amd perform much lower than an i3?

Until the last few weeks, AMD processors (at the mid to high end) are considered superior to Intel processors in basically every usage case.

But the spectrum of processors is huge. Link what you're looking at.

I recommend iPads more and more to folks in that situation. Especially with the different keyboard cases you can get.

A cell phone is all she needs. That’s not the point. When was the last time you tried to teach an 80 year old a new tech routine?

My 86 yr old mother has a ipad and iphone.

She can pay her bills, check her bank balance, lurk on Facebook, see pictures of her grand babies and great grandbabies. She sends and receives text messages but doesn't know that's what she is doing.

Having a uniform, consistent and easy interface has been the key.

Really. Using the internet is a new routine. That’s all a chromebook is. If she isn’t using the internet, then you shouldn’t be looking for a laptop or chromebook.

Chrome book is trash. If you leave it in hibernate for a couple days the battery dies.

You're assuming she understands what the "internet" is. If she thinks the internet is IE, or that "email" is the Outlook icon on her desktop, a Chromebook might be frustrating. Ultimately, I have no dog in this hunt, but as someone who does a fair amount of family tech support, I'm just giving fair warning.

A chromebook does nothing but basically run the internet. It takes no time to update and is on and running in less than ten seconds. What could you possible be doing that makes it a pain in the arse?

Laptop, Chromebooks can be a bear when they do not work. If she has been using a laptop, go there.
