I've used KIS for about 10 years now. Never had an issue, doesn't bog down my machine. Given what is going on overseas, should I delete the program and look for something else? What risks are there with using KIS right now?

Follow-up questions: what's the go-to program these days? This is my gaming rig and I use it for only general surfing when not gaming (TD, youtube, ign). My son (3) likes to "work" on the computer and will click on everything. Not uncommon for him to have 30+ tabs open in Chrome and he will click on a lot of the ads on the side of the screen. I just want to make sure he doesn't get the pc infected.

Sounds like you need to keep him off the PC

The built in Windows Defender is good enough, but yeah, get the kid off of there. Get him a Chromebook or something.

1) get kid of the computer
2) install the Ad Block Pro and uBlock Origin add-ons to get rid of the ads.

I flatly refused to allow Kaspersky on our equipment when approached a couple of years ago. As bad as ours is, that's one government I would never trust to leave their corporations alone.

Lots of products that are just as good anyway.

My hand to god, in my former profession we were not allowed to use it. I would suggest not using it, but you do you.

Kaspersky is the best in the business. I wouldn't let propaganda sway your attention to the facts.

This was from an MFR in 2007, not today. Haven’t used it since.

My bad, douche bag. Guy asks about Kaspersky. I give insight on Kaspersky. You claim it’s the best even though our own fricking government 15yrs ago said don’t use it. Best ever…

Well of course our government said that. They want you to use something with THEIR backdoor in it.

I stay out of all that and just go by the AV testing standards. Kaspersky has essentially stayed at the top for over a decade. They seem to be the only one without some significant drops in protection at times where as almost everyone else has had some hiccups at stages.

Their protection is legit, but there is a back door.

the basic windows security is fine. It is more about the protection you have in your internet browser these days. uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger are what I use but most of the top Ad Blockers work great and are free. If you don't understand how to use those, just make sure you aren't using Microsoft Edge as your browser and install some Extensions in Brave, Chrome, or Firefox to keep you protected. I like Brave browser personally.

There are hundreds if not thousands of security programs out there. I view security in multi tiered approach for my company. The best security is keeping the malware\virus from getting to your machine.

I use ESET enterprise A\V as my primary security blanket. Their web interface is one of the best in the business.

Kaspersky is annually top rated, true. I used it several years ago but became uncomfortable with it when some of the initial stories started coming out. On a practical level I doubt individual consumers would be targeted by whatever back door is there, but there's still the possibility of being used as a vector to do something else. Just not worth the risk when there are plenty of solid options.

I used Norton for a few years but got tired of the sales nags. Used nothing but Windows Defender for a while but decided a few months ago with the uptick in "stuff" to check current reviews, and got BitDefender. It's got a very good AV/malware score plus some good features like a secure browser & VPN.
