What is the device they provide you with? Is it a router/modem combo? Just router? Just modem?

The guy who signed me up worked on the Directv side of things and had no answers, just said it came with something.

What I got was a router and their "home gateway." It essentially just handles all of their services in one box (internet, cable, phone). I'm not sure if this is the norm but I found that the router they gave me worked great for everything except Apple products for some reason. Just a very slow connection but I could be downloading a full HD video on my OC at the same time.

I could never figure out a fix and ended up getting my own router and unplugging theirs. Very reliable/fast internet service here.

So this home gateway serves as a modem?

If it is anything like what we have with UVerse, the gateway is something along the lines of an Arris NVG599 modem/router combo.

You can put it in bridge mode and add your own router, but if you are using them for TV as well it can get to be a pain, because the gateway has to be the DHCP for the Uverse TV WAP. There are instructions online for doing it - you just have to set up a separate subnet for the TV WAP.

You will either get a Pace 5268AC or a Motorola NVG 599. I have seen a few customers put them in bridge mode to use their own equipment behind the gateway. According to them it wasn't easy and finding the information on how to do it took some time. I've never attempted it myself but it can be done.

I have the pace model. Instead of putting it in bridge mode, I just created my own subnet for my router and use my equipment behind theirs. Then I port forwarded my router's IP to get an outside ip address.

BTW, to the dude who was wondering why his apple stuff didn't work with the ATT modem, it's because ATT doesn't know how to implement IPv6. Apple devices detect that ATT is using IPv6, and then default to it, but because ATT sucks at life and fricked it up apple devices don't work properly. All you have to do to fix the problem is log into your ATT equipment and disable IPv6.

For the record, I'm a google/android user, and not an apple fanboy.

Wow, it's sounding like I should just stick with my 150mb Cox. I pay 60 bucks for it and everything works flawlessly, I was just wide-eyed at the thought of having a gigabit and it is only 70 bucks

We are about to sign up for the gigapower and DirecTV package, absolutely amazing prices for that together, for the first 2 years at least

About a hundred less than what we were paying for verizon fios and DTV with the fios being at 150mb

How do they run the cables for the at&t gigapower? We have a sod down and was hoping to not dig it up

My Cox connection is WAAAAYYY better than any Uverse internet connection that I've used. Apparently ATT is even trying to distance themselves from the shitty performance by changing the name from "Uverse Internet" to "AT&T Internet." Cox doesn't even bother negotiating on internet pricing in my area because they know that ATT's is garbage.

For anyone with Gigapower, how is reliability? I don't have access to it, but curious.

I've had it for a month and a half, and all has been well with it. I have 1 Gbps. I also have Comcast's 200 Mbps.

I get like 940 down and a little over 910 up on att when I'm wired. Comcast is like 239 down and 12.5 up. My brother has the same fiber internet, and he gets 950 down and almost 920 up. He has had his about a month longer, and he hasn't had any problems with it.

I don't have DirecTV now, but I've had it in the past. My brother has it, and it's pretty much the same as it was when we had it at our old house. Other than NFL Sunday Ticket and being able to watch the Saints, I don't really like anything else about it. I have Dish and Comcast for TV. I like Comcast X1 the most as far as the interface, but the Hopper 3 crushes everything. The Hopper 3 has 16 tuners, YouTube, Netflix and a voice remote that smokes Comcast/Cox.

Cox leases X1 from Comcast, but they call it Contour. I was working at Comcast when that deal went down.
