Because the One Plus face unlock is much different than iPhone X. It isn’t similar to a mini Xbox Kinect like the iPhone’s version. It’s not trying to process nearly as much data about your face and probably much easier to fool.

It probably is easier to fool. That has nothing to do with having to swipe up every time and making what should be a one step process into a two. The One Plus also somehow managed to also include a finger printer reader as well.
And again, this is a budget phone at $500. Half the price of the iphone X.

I was looking at a demo of Apple Pay and you do indeed need to double click the power button, look at your phone to Face ID and then put the phone on the Card Reader. As opposed to the one motion Touch ID method of holding the phone over the NFC with your thumb on the Touch ID. Authentication and Activation in the same step. But I see why they make you take the extra step with Face ID.
The problem with Face Authentication, and I don't know how the One Plus gets around this, is determining intent. They would have to ask for some face gesture like "Raise your eyebrows to authorize payment" to really get intent via Face Authentication.

I’m sure the government is happy
Next time they kill a terrorist they just need to stick his iPhone in front of the corpse

See what you’re saying though. Unnecessary step
Feels kind of cool. Like I’m opening a door

From what I read, One Plus doesn’t use it for transactions or other security risk features, mostly just uses it to unlock the phone.

I went ahead and tried the test of seeing if the phone would recognize my face from a photo. Thankfully it did not work.
Had to try it though.

Apple is so behind the curve

SIAP or common knowledge, but Apple bought the Israeli company that developed the Kinect 3D sensor several years ago, PrimeSense. At the time, people were still speculating that Apple was going to make an actual TV and use it for that.

Oh and the battery is the best one I’ve had on an iPhone
Don’t worry, Apple will take care of that. My 7+ had the best battery I’ve ever had on a phone and they have found new and inventive ways to remedy that. That’s the one thing that has pissed me off. Otherwise, I love this phone.

Face id just not a thing I'd try to use first. The fingerprint scanner would be as I can feel for that in my pocket and have it ready.

Can you open theX in the Dark? I use my plane when flying at night and there is not muck light

Not sure. I don't think you can. I've seen multiple videos saying that was a huge complaint. Still don't know why apple couldn't put a scanner on a side button or the back.

The face scanner illuminates your face with infrared. It works in the dark.
