And have found out the touch pad is made of glass. Dropped it on a corner from a foot or 2. It's shattered, but still seems to work ok. Got to keep out of kids reach now.

Replacement is $80, more than half the cost of a new system. I can get most new systems for a similar price. Disappointed but not surprised. I'm not highly invested in Apple but like their products. However this is a bit of a wake up call of how expensive it really is to win their products. There is absolutely no support on this, only option is new remote (or remote app).

Just a PSA. Get a case for the remote. I had no idea it was so fragile.

Sorry for your loss.

If it makes you feel better, I don’t even know where my ATV4 remote is. Never used it.

Between my Harmony remote and the phone app, I don’t need it.

My wife can't seem to understand to use the remote app otherwise I'd say no big deal.

I didn't realize it was capable of utilizing a universal (3rd party) remote. Harmony can control it?

For the $80 I'm certainly considering other options including Roku

Um I’ve dropped mine onto tile flooring probably 10-15 times. Doesn’t even have a scratch on it.

My one year old handles mine daily throws it and crawls with it slamming on the floor. We Have only tile in our house. The thing has taken a beating, that's why I'm bringing this up.

I was the one that broke it, just dropped at a bad angle on a corner. It's also the only way I have ever broken a phone screen, when it falls on a corner.

Just trying to make everyone aware how expensive this thing is because I had no idea and would have probably kept it out of reach of I knew.

I had to get a case for the ones we have. They should have designed the remote so you could feel if you were holding it the right way.

I did the same thing. I called Apple and was honest about what happened. Two days later I had a new remote in the mail for free.

I also had an older AppleTV with a remote that was acting up, they sent me over a new one of those as well.

Give them a call. Worth a try. And yes, get a cheap case off of amazon.
