I don't understand. How do SMS messages just disappear? And can I avoid this by just using a messaging app that uses data?

iMessage fricks them up. Making sure to deactivate a few weeks before you switch helps a lot, so you have time for it to fully quit sending it to iMessage.

I guess I don't have to worry about it if I'm switching from Android to Apple, right?

This is my reason. When I was in college I got my first smartphone and it was a Samsung Galaxy I think but it was an android device. After not even 6 months the phone became so laggy and slow, it was unbearable. I got it replaced for free and after 6 months of the new one it did the same thing. My next phone was an I phone and it lasted two years without a hiccup. I haven't looked back since because of that past bad experience.
had a samsung S4 before going to my current nexus 6p and I can tell you that the experience is night and day.

people who have only used laggy, bloated samsung android devices are getting cheated out of a really good android experience on a 5X/6P, IMO.

i dont think so. android has a proprietary messaging system called 'hangouts' but the only problem i've found is those messages show up TOO MANY PLACES, like the tablet behind me beeps, my phone beeps, my laptop beeps and my desktop beeps because hangouts messages show up anywhere you are logged into gmail in a browser in a little chat window at the bottom.

not sure why apple couldn't have done something similar, the iMessage crap has been a huge mess.

What is the main reason Apple owners don't use an Android device?

Platform lock in & familiarity are probably the top 2 reasons.

This was posted by an Android user who just got an iPhone 7 on /r/iphone

Aesthetics - The iPhone is truly a beautiful device. Slim, sleek, easy to hold and looks great. Far better than the glass and fake leather back of my Note 4. No comparison here.

The ecosystem - Worlds better than the mismash of different tools you have to use on Android to achieve the same thing. It's all so seamless and easy - I absolutely love it.

Calls/Text/Etc - iMessage is a properly robust messaging system that truly works - I haven't found one better. Calls are the same as android, though Facetime is nearly flawless (provided your connection is fine). Nothing on Android comes close to that.

The issue is that once you leave the iphone for android, other iphones don't recognize that you no longer have an iphone. Hence, your imessages will just disappear into the abyss.

I wasn't getting SMS either so who knows.

Hangouts still just uses regular SMS if you do it through phone numbers, I use it on iOS and Android. I like iMessage better, but to each his own. I prefer slack to both of them though. Love slack.

If I'm ever forced to leave Windows Phone, I'll go to Android with zero hesitation.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. I 100% mms through my phone using hangouts. Now if i send something from hangouts to say someone who has a flip phone or doesnt use hangouts i think it sends it via sms. I am not entirely sure about that though.

me too man! I'm surprised how much I like this phone. I thought I was going to be envious of the 6P but now I appreciate the size of the 5x and have no lag.

I find this weird to even care about whether Iphone or Android. 95% of people are going to put it in a case so who cares what it looks like? I'd rather it be made of plastic and be light as shite so when I put a case on it, it isn't heavy as shite. Glass breaks and is expensive. It just makes the phone more expensive to repair.

The chassis is like 2% of the devices over all weight. Battery & screen is like 95% of weight so you're not really saving much making it out of plastic or aluminum.

How much time do you have?

In short, it would turn off, take longer than dial up to connect to the internet, wouldn't hold a charge longer than 3/4's of a day, it would turn off, it would turn off, it would drop calls, it would turn off.

I really don't see how they have dominated the cell phone market. Their phones suck. Big time. And, no, I'm not giving them another shot. I have done that TOO many times. They always say, "No, but srsly, they fixed all those issues." LOLZ

Get you a Nexus 5x or 6P. Don't leave us bro.

Known Fact: You get smaller if you get an Iphone.
