Why is practically every single app asking me if it can use Bluetooth all of a sudden?

Before IOS 13 apps could use Bluetooth at anytime Bluetooth was turned on without you knowing. Basically used as a tracker where, store for example, would set up trackers that could tell them where you were inside the store. The only way to stop it was to turn off Bluetooth. Apple fixed this by letting you decide which apps get to use Bluetooth. It’s just a security thing.

You're welcome, that was a very simplified answer and I'm sure people with more knowledge could give you better examples.

What got me were the number of apps using Bluetooth. It's a reminder that no matter what if you have a smartphone on you, people will know where you are.

I have this weird thing happening since I updated. Whenever I listen to a podcast or, say, the on demand section of 104.5 or 98.1 I have to leave the phone open. I can’t put it to sleep and keep listening. The music apps work fine. Apple, pandora, amazon, etc. It seems to only be some LSU podcasts, 104.5 and 98.1. Anyone else experiencing this?

It is a new thing with iOS 13. Some apps track your location via Bluetooth. That is why.

I get this, but what I cannot remember is what exactly the Bluetooth privacy settings actually did in iOS 12 and earlier. It never ask me before the 13 betas (usually just locked it and didn't allow changes) and only once for any in family which was 3rd party watch's software. Was it strictly limiting apps with hardware while apps without their own hardware were free to use as they wanted?

I at first thought this coincided with 13's Find my device using bluetooth of nearby Apple products if not on network and the new privacy settings were showing which 3rd party apps were trying to use function as well, but I read something similar to you wrote about their past freedom to use bluetooth and couldn't see what the point of the Bluetooth privacy setting in 12 and earlier was. It gave false sense of security over what apps were and were not allowed to use bluetooth.

Before they could update for beta & still written for 12 and earlier on first use with beta I started to get bluetooth requests from Amazon, DirectvNOW, Facebook, Google Maps, HBO Go, Snapchat, Twitch, Walgreens, YouTube, and a few others, and all but DIrectvNow had main location setting turned off completely for them and none are used with bluetooth devices or had requested to use bluetooth under privacy settings in 12 before installing 13 beta. It kind of bothers me that in 12 and earlier turning off location for these apps and never seeing these come up to use bluetooth or under Bluetooth privacy settings (again usually just had it locked to not allow any apps) to find out apps on my phone were basically being allowed to track my location by communicating with other bluetooth devices or scanners or just getting the same info my phone received and then transmitting this to their servers and storing while my iPhone made it look otherwise.

Email is better after 13.1, but far from perfect (emails not pushing, hearing the ding but emails not showing, etc). How's everyone else's email doing?

Actually. BlackBerry had dark mode first with BB10.

Android and Apple have ripped off BlackBerry quite a bit since 13.

I really wouldn't say anybody is ripping anybody off with a simple dark mode. Don't get your panties in a wad.

A lot of stuff Android did came from Apple and a good bit of stuff from Apple came from Android. With that being said, most of this stuff is a natural progression and would have been thought of eventually. That's why I keep saying that they are basically the same now.

They all ripped off BlackBerry when it came to gestures as well.

One thing I dont like about 13. Made it harder to update apps.

I don’t know the answer to this. Honestly I didn’t know about the changes to 13 but did a little research after I started getting the messages about Bluetooth. After reading several articles that is what I pieced together after 13 was released.

Not a ripoff. Different and a natural progression with large screen to body ratios. How did you think we were going to navigate the phone with no buttons?

. Not really harder but I tend to agree, it's awkward and I have no idea why they changed it.
