Looking for ISP recommendations and curious on internet prices in the area?
Moving to Baton Rouge in the Inniswold area next month. Just me and my wife typical TV and computer/phone use, security system, no gaming, and occasional work from home.

Will depend on exact location but i rank them as this.
Rev - fiber -- great custmorer service. $89 what I currently pay
ATT Fiber
T-Moble 5g home
Cox
ATT non fiber

Inniswold won't have Rev available, so go with ATT fiber if you can get it

AT&T Fiber or Rev Fiber. Whichever of those you can get

All of this will be situational to my specific location/piece of the grid...
Cox gets a lot of hate here (I was one of them) and theres a lot of sucking off ATT here (I was also one of them). I had Cox forever and couldn't wait for ATT fiber to come to my street. When they finally showed up at my door I signed up immediately. I was mostly interested in ATT offering double my current Cox bandwidth, symmetrical bandwidth, no data caps, and of course paying $20 less per month.
Now that I have had ATT for a while I have been kinda unimpressed. Not enough to switch back to paying more for Cox, but almost. Cox, like most services these days, kinda has a reputation for shitty customer service and is overpriced compared to the competition. But one thing I can say is everything worked all the time and i never had to deal with their customer service. Now maybe that is a factor of me having the service so long and getting it to that point while forgetting past hardships, but regardless it was ultra reliable.
So far my experience with ATT has been somewhat regular "micro" outages. They may not even last 1 minute or may not be a complete outage, but its enough to disrupt whatever I am doing and cause some inconveniences (I am wfh). Also, the gateway they give you is shite and is not a hands off experience if you are an above average network user. I haven't had the desire or time to frick with putting it in bridge mode and breaking out my old router. Last one, not sure if related, but would be a hell of a coincidence, I've noticed that my XBOX updates take substantially longer and I never get anywhere near max bandwidth on downloads. This worked flawlessly until switching to ATT and their equipment.
So at the end of the day its hard NOT TO recommend ATT based on what you get for the price, but its also hard TO recommend it based on the specific experience I have had.

you sound like you kept the junk, bottom of the barrel equipment and have been having issues....Fiber works...If its not working, its your equipment

ATT came out and upgraded my BGW210 to a 320 a few months ago after I screwed up the fiber line where it comes into the house cutting grass. Have that passing through to my Unifi switches and APs and it’s been super solid for 3+ years now overall.

Yeah, 100%. I specifically stated that in my comment.

Its not my equipment. Its the equipment ATT provided for their service.
This is the whole point of my comment though. Some, if not vast majority, of subscribers are not going to want to, or/nor have the technical aptitude, to do what you are suggesting. So they will:
A. Have to live with it
B. Figure it out
C. Pay someon else to do it

Yea I have never had an outage with my ATT fiber, yet every neighbor around me with Cox has constant outages

Vexus is the same way in Hammond..
The only thing in my house from them is the plate on the wall where the actual fiber turns to Cat..A year or so ago, we had a contractor go right through the markings and cut the line..Vexus offered to come that night to rerun the lines, but we gave them until the next day and they had no issues
Currently running my TPLink mesh and consistently get in the high 650 wireless which is fine for me as most everything is wired anyway

I can only get Cox and ATT where I'm at. Cox was cheaper with more speed. Tech Board here helped me pick out my modern and router which has finally paid itself back vs. renting through Cox.
That being said, if you can't get fiber, Cox and buying your own equipment will save you money and headaches. I used to have interrupted connections frequently on my 3 year old Cox modem. Haven't dropped a single thing in almost a year now.

I have Cox and ATT fiber experience in my neighborhood and have not experienced any problems with ATT since installation in July 2024, whereas, outages were frequent and frustrating with Cox.

Their gateway sucks as a wireless router. I used it for about 2 days before going to something else for wireless. Otherwise the service has been fine.
