I'm done with Microsoft. This week's issue was the final straw. warning: RANT INSIDE

in short, i hardened my server that is running docker, virtualbox, home assistant, plex, tailscale, custom DNS filter, etc etc and for the past year or so it will not install windows updates without my express consent, restart or anything else. survived numerous power outages; UPS gracefully shuts it down if the power outage exceeds battery life. auto restarts, logs back in, yada yada yada. been great.

then twice in the last 3 days its completely hung up on me. i only access it via RDP because its in my server closet. super annoying. when i went to the pc it was sitting on 'please wait' blue screen and attempting to login there reesulted in a hung up PC and ultimately i had to hard-power-off the server in the midst of a hung spinning wheel.

super fricking annoying.

TWENTY FIVE frickING MINUTES this was up on my screen.

no progress, no visual indicator of any type whatsoever.

i finally asked AI "did i just break my computer even MORE??" and AI said "let me check the background processes....


"nope, its still running. just give it about 10 more minutes."

Sure enough, about 10 minutes later (a good 35 minutes in TOTAL) it suddenly changed to "done, restart?"

can't fricking wait to finish my current project and convert my PC to proxmox and relegate windows to a fricking VM in the corner. i dont even care how much work it is to rebuild HA and Plex. I'M SO DONE.
