i14 Pro Max vs i14 Plus

I need some input from the Tech board. I'm old and not so tech savvy but I've been waiting since my birthday for a new phone specifically the i14 Pro Max. They've been unavailable for a while. I called the Apple store today and the rep steered me to the i14 Plus. He said it is available and just as good for what I need. He also said there were some differences in the camera but only if you photoshopped which I have no idea about.
What says the tech board?????

Do you take a bunch of pictures or need extra long battery life?

I probably would have went with a 13 plus if it was available when I got my 13 pro max based on how I use my phone.

The phone company stores and Apple stores have terrible availability. You can likely buy whatever you want at the nearest BestBuy.

I don’t take a whole lot of pictures and I hardly ever edit and crop. I’m seriously thinking about ordering the iPhone Plus.
Thanks, I really appreciate your input????????

Editing will be fine, the extra camera's are the main difference. I doubt you would ever use it. I think you'd probably be fine with a 14+

Also, don't just forget about the iPhone 13pro or pro max. It's definitely cheaper and does 98% of what the 14pro and 14pro max can do.
Honestly, your first question should be "Do I want the bigger phone or smaller?". Go to bestbuy and handle both and see which you prefer. Then if money is a concern, go with the 13 over the 14 - unless you just want the latest and greatest.

Get the Plus. Unless you care about the new hole punch display or faster scrolling. Plus will have better battery life and take almost as good of pictures. Is also $200 cheaper.

This is good advice. For that matter, I'd even consider a 12 pro/pro max. I'm still on an 11 pro max, and it continues to do everything I need. Still has good battery health (86% max capacity) after 3 years and is plenty fast.
If you're a somewhat casual user of smartphone technology, you'll be fine with staying a generation (or two, or three) behind with the iphones.

Pro max is much much heavier

I upgraded from the Xr to the 14 Pro Max. I love the Pro Max. The screen is larger and the battery lasts longer.
I did travel to Australia a month ago and went to the great ocean road and saw the 12 apostles. I took advantage of the 48 mp camera and took some amazing photos and videos. So, I am definitely impressed with what this phone has to offer.

You’re actually using the 48mp setting? In proraw?

Yeah. The scenery was incredible and I wanted the best possible pictures and videos.
The last photo was taken without RAW. I’m not that knowledgeable on photo taking but I do think the other photos look a tad better.

To my knowledge, the proRaw data really is if you mess with photo editing apps. I'm not sure for the normal iphone user if there's a big difference between proRaw and the normal images it takes when you're not making studio grade edits.
Someone may correct me if I'm completely wrong there though.

According to Apple‘s comparison tool on its website for the extra $200 you seem to mostly get big rear facing camera upgrade (including denser chip, telephoto, & a LiDAR Scanner) along with the A16 chip, a little extra battery, & some display improvements like - Dynamic Island, brighter, ProMotion, & always on.
It also lists “Precision dual-frequency GPS” for the Pro Max and not for the Plus
