I've done some research on this freaking $800 wonder which since I gave it to her on Friday at least 5 of her friends have come over to try out the drawing. Leonardo is awesome btw.

Anyway I wasn't expecting how popular this was but unlike an iPhone I don't think you can have Microsoft remotely disabled the unit if it's stolen.

There are some tools but is an insurance claim really my only option on this? The keyboard and pen aren't serialized so they can be snatched easily.

Any suggestions from those who bought this for their college kids? Best practices?

I freaking know she's going to leave it in a classroom or coffee shop. I just know it.

Is that what the kids are calling "it" these days?

"I lost my 'surface pro' in the backseat of Brayden's Jeep last night."

You can get software that works like 'find my Droid' or iPhone equivalent. Only will be able to find it if it's on an already known network. Fortunately the college wifi helps with this prospect. All this is mostly for protecting the he data on the device and less finding the stolen device, but it's worth looking into.

True story, my wife’s uncle left his iPad in a his truck front seat when he went into a gas station and came out to it gone. He pulled up the find my phone app and it was in the parking lot outside a business a couple blocks down the road. Called the police and boom busted the dumbass.

If they have a gps as said get an app op. I bought a laptop lock with like 3 ft of cord you lock around a desk or whatever the summer before I started college. Think I used it like 3 times.

1)Register your device with Microsoft: This is important because it can help law enforcement return your device to you when it is recovered. And Microsoft is more than willing to cooperate with the police.
2)Turn on Find My Device: Windows 10 includes a find my device feature you can use to
3)Consider using 3rd-party tracking software: This will help you track your Surface if it goes missing. Check out this article on tracking software for your Surface for some help with such tracking software.
4)Know your Serial Number: Make sure you have your device’s Serial #, make, and model written down somewhere in your records. This is always good advice because you never know when you’ll need it.
