Teach relatives about wifi. Practice sessions.
Consequence if fails.
Consequences must be real.
I have verizon too. Costs a few bucks more than competition, works fine.

I just moved from Fi to AT&T.
Was paying probably 60/month on Fi, on AT&T we're paying 150ish for 2 lines of unlimited. We already had Uverse, so we're getting a discount there and the fiancee was already on AT&T paying over 100 a month for her line, so it's a net positive.
I'd probably prefer Verizon, but service on AT&T is much, much better than Project Fi. Unless you're a really low data user or you travel internationally a lot, the value just isn't there anymore for Project Fi. But the customer service is legitimately excellent.

Ya, I have wifi at home and at work, so I'm under 2GB a month.
Fi also worked pretty well in Peru. Had service in the small towns in the Sacred Valley and even had spotty service on Machu Picchu.
If I didn't have access to Wifi I'd consider switching so I didn't have to monitor my usage so much.

$140 including taxes with T-Mobile for 3 lines of unlimited everything, plus 4th line at no charge.
So that's $35 a month per line. Data is great. Only caveat is they throttle video quality to 480p, which, on a 5.3" diagonal screed still looks pretty good.

80 bucks a month (1 line) for unlimited from Verizon. I used 43 gb last month so I need unlimited.

switched from Fi to Sprint recently on their BYOD promotion where it's unlimited everything free for a year.

So I am on Verizon (only one phone on the plan as my wife has a work phone) in the Atlanta area. I have paid off my Samsung 6 and was thinking about upgrading, but remembered the Project Fi stuff and decided to look into.
I'm interested in hearing more about Fi, especially from the people who had Fi and decided to go in another direction. After doing some math, it doesn't look like I'll save any money, but I can easily get by on 2 GB a month and I like the idea of being credited money for unused data. Regardless, I think savings will be pretty negligible. Is the service really that poor that people are going back to one of the main providers? I take 2-3 international trips per year for work (about 1 week long each trip), so I guess I should take that into consideration.

I think that depends on where you live. Here in Austin it is great, but we also have Google, Facebook, Samsung, etc offices here so it would be pretty embarrassing for them if it didn't work here.

I took it for a spin for the first time in Peru a few months ago. Worked well enough. Worked where it was expected to work, worked sometimes when I didn't expect it to, and didn't work in places I expected to have problems like the middle of nowhere.
You may want to consider T-Mobile as well for the international feature.

Yes. Update your contract.
I have 4 phones through verizon with unlimited minutes and messaging and 18 gigs of data shared between the 4 lines for about $220 a month.

100 bucks even no tax or anything for 5 lines unlimited everything I think data is like 3.5 gb a phone then it just throttled down but never any overages
Cricket wireless, amazing reception. Better than t mobile where I am and better price. Could not be happier. They also gave me like 200 bucks per phone line o transferred from them towards credit... I had like half a year free phone service. Still amazed by the deal and no contract.

It's been mobile tel, a t&t twice, quite a few companies, then became Verizon. Been on unlimited plan for many years no contract . $103 a month

Last year when my youngest got a phone and we became a four phone family, I didn't want to pay $200+ for phone service, so I went with Cricket Wireless.
My bill is exactly $100 a month including taxes. That includes unlimited talk/text and 4gb per line.

Not sure about everyone but I love it, but I spend at least 200 days a year outside the US, it has made things much simpler.
I am sure folks leave it for many reasons but switching from Fi to Sprint is 100% not about service as it works on all Sprint towers along with T-mobile and US cellular in the US and virtually all international companies, have yet to find a single carrier outside the US it does not work with.

$25/month with project fi
I pay $40.00/month (20 for unlimited talk/text, 20 for 2Gb data) with Fi. Whatever I don't use of my data gets credited to my next bill. I have actually had months where I paid nothing and a credit on my bill left over.

take the time to ask your relatives about phone service providers in your region. I have 2 lines, unlimited data for all 2. Pay about $200/month.
