Hey yall,

I'm looking to install a couple of cameras at my new house. My ideal areas of coverage are my front door and rear carport. I've been looking at the Ring Doorbell and Ring Motion Light. Do any of you run multiple Ring cams? Pros and Cons?

I'm pretty tech/electrical savvy. Running wire/installing/monitoring will not be an issue.

I've looked at Wyze (no doorbells?) Blink (too many conflicting reviews) and a few other brands on Amazon. Ring really just seems to be like the best solution for my needs. Any and all input is welcome!

I have the ring alarm system and it is excellent. For cameras I do use an Amcrest POE setup and it is also excellent.

Look at amcrest doorbell. You can pay for online storage if you want but also supports local recording to a NVR. For me this is a must for any camera I put up in my house. Also avoid any wifi cameras, unless it's in a location you absolutely can not run Ethernet. Get all POE cameras and your life will be much simpler.

For me I got a used i5 PC of eBay and installed blue iris on it. I have it recording 24/7 so I'm not worried about overhead of motion processing.

Still handy to have motion events when reviewing footage though. You should configure BI to use onvif events from the camera.

If the cameras are just to know what's going on on your property for surveillance and don't want to spend a lot of money, I recommend the Wyze V3 cams plus the EZVIZ DB1C wired doorbell cam.

The DB1C doorbell cam is exceptional for the price. It has AI human detection, records events several seconds before the event trigger, has user definable detection zones, has a wide vertical and horizontal view, uses the Sony Starlight sensor for very good nightvision and you can see faces very clearly even with a 1080p camera. It's app is really good. The only two caveats are that you may need to upgrade your doorbell transformer to a higher voltage if you measure your doorbell voltage and it is less than 12 volts at the doorbell. Plus if your Wifi is weak at your front door, you should add a mesh Wifi system.

The Wyze cameras are really good continuous recording inexpensive 1080p security cams. I don't pay for the subscription service so they are free to use going forward. You have to wire the power, or buy and install very long extension cables which are readily available. Also definitely recommend a mesh Wifi system to get strong Wifi all around the perimeter of your house

I have three Ring floodlight cams and a doorbell. Love them. Clear imagery and reliable.

The Nest cameras are really good, and if you have an Alexa you can link it to that to show the video when you want it to.
