Earlier this year I converted from my 5.1 Vizio soundbar to a full-blown home theater setup. The system is a 7.1 setup with the following components:

- 6x Pyle Home PIC8E 300 Watt High-End 8-Inch Two-Way In-Ceiling Speaker LINK
- 1x Polk Audio 255C-RT In-wall / In-ceiling center channel speaker LINK
- 1x Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer LINK
- Pioneer VSX-1131 7.2-Channel AV Receiver with MCACC, built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi LINK
- 14AWG Gauge Wire CL2 LINK

I am as naive as they come about this stuff and I tried to read as much as I could before I started buying but evidently I failed...
All the speakers DO work and the sound is "fine" but, frankly, it's no better than the Vizio soundbar I had before. But nearly $1000 later I'd have expected at least some quality of better sound.

Is there any surface-level thing that sticks out that could be limiting me? Or a part/parts I can swap out that are not at the quality level of the other parts? Is there some setting on the Receiver I'm just missing all together?

Appreciate the advice.

I hate to be that guy but you get what you pay for.

Pyle stuff is pretty much junk.

Have you calibrated the speakers with an SPL meter? Are the speakers all directed toward the main listening area?

One thing I will say for sure is that usually it's best to have the same speaker brand and model for your front and center channels as they're timbre matched. With mismatched you won't get that seamless transition across the soundfield.

Even with the speakers being subpar, I have to think you are not getting digital signals and/or you have the receive settings effed. Is there anyone you know who can play with your receiver?

Receiver seems decent. They usually have a ton of settings. You need to play around with them in order to optimize the sound.

MCACC is the sound calibration software for your receiver. Did you run that?

There are so many configuration options for receivers today, it can get really confusing. See if you can find a video on YouTube with the set up/calibration of your receiver. That may give you some ideas.

@SG_Geaux
I'm 100% willing to accept that. Can you recommend an alternative quality ceiling speaker?

@Chitown_Badger
I did the little setup with the microphone included in the package if that's what you're referring to. But an SPL meter? Definitely not.

@patnuh
No that's exactly what I'm looking for. Just someone who knows about this stuff. I certainly don't.

@Brisketeer
Do you mean the microphone thing it came with?

NVM-I see you answered in that post.

Something has to be off though. It should at least be more immersive, regardless of the speaker quality.

What’s the source? Cable box? Blu Ray? Netflix? Streaming box like a roll (and if so, which apps?)

The source is the Roku Smart TV routed through HDMI. Sound is the same on any app.

When you say no better, do you mean by loudness or quality?

Those Pyles are not that good and you are going from directly in front of you to about 10' in the air.

The Polk is decent but it can't carry the rest of the system. What likely is happening is that the Polk center is carrying the weight like the Vizio was since it is in front (hopefully the center is not in the ceiling).

Have you run the calibration program in the receiver to get timing and loudness figured out?

The best thing you could do is get bookshelf speakers for the front with your Polks if you want a much better experience.
In ceilings are usually terrible for price to performance.

There are quality in ceiling speakers to be had they just don’t say Pyle on them. Yeah, they aren’t going to be as good as a nice set of towers but they will be noticeable better than a sound bar when set up properly with enough power.

Id be willing to bet the OP doesn’t have it wired right

I set my old home theater stuff outside last weekend for a test run. The mode on the receiver made a HUGE difference on the sound and which speaker or speakers I was actually hearing.

Is it all in phase?

Meaning the left and right wires are connected correctly for each and every speaker.

If you ran the setup with the included microphone you should be ok. Probably not completely dialed in but good. Are you getting decent bass at least? That should be noticeably better than the soundbar.
