This is why I never have flown and will never

Comparing a 50 year old single engine prop plane to a modern commercial airline is just silly.
I seem to have the same problem each year with these tiny bugs that jump all over when I'm walking through the yard. What are these? Is it sod webworms? Springtails? Leafhoppers?
Is there a fruit tree nursery in south LA that has 'pure' trees and not those that are grafted? I previously heard of a place towards Covington north of I-12 but can't remember the name.
Where can you buy crushed limestone? Have the same problem with an Oak in my front yard.

Name that Weed!

Very bright green and looks a lot like grass. My Bermudagrass is in the photo for comparison.

One LSU Ag Center guy said "a type of sedge" but my sedge killers didn't touch it. (Tried MSMA and Ortho Nutsedge Killer)
Another guy said "southern watergrass" but when I looked it up that looks like a pond weed.

The closest thing I could guess is yellow nutsedge but it doesn't appear to have the same seedheads as Google Images shows.

Help!

It's very unlikely the roots have expanded from the original root ball. My advice is to dig it up (dig in a circle around it so as to not cut the roots) and give it a lift. It's very likely sitting in water assuming you have hard clay soil.

add 1 Ton/acre of lime

That's a lot of lime! My yard is a little over 1/4 an acre so I'm guessing like 500-600lb of lime? Where do I even get something like that?

And I did just call the #. The lady in Ascension didn't know where I could get it and said to ask the local nurseries.

Louisiana Nursery in Prairieville sells it by the yard.

Just called them 4:30pm Friday 4/9 and told "we only have river silt and don't carry sand."
Got my results in recently but I have no idea what I'm looking at.

I think I just need to add lime but I'm not certain. If it is indeed just lime, would something like this suffice?

For reference, Bermudagrass lawn and fruit trees of many varieties.

I was going to try Landscape Depot but I know nothing about their sand. As far as leveling I was going to try a drag mat behind my mower. I thought about building one out of fence also.

Check these out:

Dude this is so helpful - thank you!
Now given my original post that I need to kill a LOT of weeds and then reseed, would you seed BEFORE or AFTER the sand?

@CrawDude

Thanks for the tip on ammonium sulfate. I'll wait a bit on it.

And to others asking, I already own MSMA, Celsius, Prodiamine, MSM, you name it I've got it.

Does anyone know where I can get some good sand by the yard to topdress and level with? Also, what's a good way to level when I don't own any big equipment? I'm only on 3/4ths acre.

@SATNIGHTS

Solutions Pest and Lawn. About ~$100. I'll use it.

Chronology of Lawn Rebuild

Posted by vemnox on 4/7/21 at 11:51 am
Lawn was originally seeded with Bermudagrass in 2017. Over the years I've had a massive invasion of Dallisgrass, Bahiagrass, Carpetgress, Rush, Spurge, and others. It's in a bad way.
I had the LSU Ag Center come out and take a look and I also had soil tests done. LSU wants me to: core aerate, use Celsius & MSM to control weeds where Bermuda exists, add lime & ammonium sulfate to soil, 41% glyphosate in areas where there is no Bermuda at all and spot Dallisgrass, topdress with sand, and then overseed with Bermuda.
My question is regarding the sequencing/chronology of this? My guess is:

1) Aerate
2) Add lime & ammonium sulfate
3) Topdress sand
4) MSM/Celsius spot treat where Bermuda is growing
5) Glyphosate where no Bermuda is growing
6) Overseed

If there are certain time gaps I should wait, as well, I'd appreciate the input!

Pond Algae Identification?

Posted by vemnox on 3/8/21 at 1:22 pm

Hey H&G,
New pond owner here. Just dug last year, finally filled up in the winter. I have this algae bloom that recently popped up and I'm not sure how to deal with it. I tried Googling it but I can't find anything that quite matches. The closest I could find was Filamentous Algae.

Anyone know what this is? Should I treat it? If so, any recommendations as to with what?

For bonus points, I'll also take advice on the little bit of Duckweed you'll see in the photos, as well. :)

Thanks-
Does Aesthetic Landscape do work more north? I have the same issues as OP but I live in Prairieville.
Hey H&G,
My 2 year old house for which I originally seeded entirely in Bermudagrass is now probably 85% overrun by Carpetgrass. I 've followed the oft-recommended Randy Lemmon's yard schedule from Day 1, but I am clearly screwing something up because my yard just ain't right.

Can anyone recommend a yard maintenance company that assists with grass health including things like fertilizing, weed control, aerating, dethatching, etc. I am not looking for a grass cutter/mower - I actually like that part. I tried to call a local company called TruGreen but the guy who came out (besides the fact he just walked into my fenced backyard without knocking) said my yard was - and I quote - "hopeless."

Thanks!
You are THE MAN thank you!

I do have a spreader already but I think I'm going to opt for the Prodiamine liquid application kind based on some reading. I can also get a big jug that'll last me a good 2 years.
Great thanks so much!! This is perfect. Just one question:

He says
Late March-Early April - apply slow-release 3-1-2 ratio fertilizers.
Recommended formulations:
19-4-10 Nitro Phos Super Turff
18-4-6 Fertilome Southwest Greenmaker
18-0-6 Fertilome's Zero Phosphate Formula
15-5-10 Southwest Fertilizer Premium Gold
20-0-10 Bonide Premium Lawn Food

Which of these 5 am I supposed to use? Any of them?
