Have we talked about Googles AI that possibly became sentient?

A Google engineer was spooked by a company artificial intelligence chatbot and claimed it had become “sentient,” labeling it a “sweet kid,” according to a report.

Sorry if it's been discussed but I searched Tech and O-T for Google AI and LaMDA and found not results.
If it hasn't happened yet how long to you think before it does happen and how long after that do you think humans lose control of technology?

While the chat was impressive, I think it's important to remember what this AI was designed to do.
It had some convincing conversations, but that is exactly what it is designed to do. What worries me isn't whether or not it's sentient, but at some point one of these AIs is going to be, and the database of knowledge it will have access isn't going to be some curated Encyclopaedia Britannica, it's going to be the Internet. That is not a true representation of reality or humanity. Either the AIs values will be messed up, or it will decide humans must be saved from themselves.

LaMDA or Language Models for Dialog Applications is a machine-learning language model created by Google as a chatbot that is supposed to mimic humans in conversation. Like BERT, GPT-3 and other language models, LaMDA is built on Transformer, a neural network architecture that Google invented and open-sourced in 2017.
This architecture produces a model that can be trained to read many words while paying attention to how those words relate to one another and then predict what words it will think will come next. But what makes LaMDA different is that it was trained on dialogue, unlike most models.

I want these things to become sentient only to tell us we're fricking stupid.
Just wait until one of these bad boys says "Trump Won"

What's to talk about, it's a bunch of idiot reporters, talking about shite they don't understand.
It's just regressions, it's not sentient, there's no news here.

Allegedly the senior engineer that leaked it has been suspended.

Seems like I read somewhere that he was suspended because LaMBDA wanted to be talked to nicely and google refused or something along those lines.

If we ever do invent an AI, the intelligent thing would be to keep on a disconnected server and teach it the good of humanity.
All we ever see, however, are stories where people link it up to 4Chan, Reddit, and extremist political groups in Facebook.
Like... why?

Believe it or not. But 2 years ago. A guy made a post on the 4chan. Stating this in a thread. People believed then. Now that NYT has picked it up. Its crazy. Seeing it hit mainstream.
