Holy shite I was so lazy & dependent on Google I didn't realize how much better having everything local is. Its alot of work to reconstruct my library but I'm taking my time and after about a month of driving around and playing with settings locally I'm 100% on board! The musicbrainz 'lite' built into Plex to match music is working way better than I had anticipated and as long as you take your time the end results are worth it! One and done.

I can run FLAC locally and 320 in the car and can set how many tracks to 'cache ahead' (I set it to 15) and the visualizations which I haven't played with since the Winamp days are fun when I'm driving and the phone is mounted to the wireless pad.

also everyone i created an account for in plex can play my music. no limit bullshite if i want to play a different song on every speaker in my house or while on the road.

10/10 decision. would leave Google again.

How did those die off? It was one of the best things about the MP3 era.

Usually this involves pirated music though, right?

If you want to, but it's pretty easy to rip your own CDs. Windows Media Player even has a "rip CD" button.

So, in this scenario you already have CDs of all the music you want. That's not at all like my scenario. :)

I have a full blown network/domain at home, but I just punk out and use Spotify.

for sure I can't lay hands on everything but it's as much to have a complete library for a given collection at it is to steal the latest pop crap.

I sleep soundly at night because I have fringe music tastes and the streaming services do a shitty job catering to me.

Try listening to all 300+ FAX label releases on a mainstream service. Impossible.

How about the top 100 or 500 best jazz albums? Good luck finding the authentic releases. You're going to get jerked around unless you painstakingly catalog everything into a playlist then then God help you if switch services because you get to start all over again

No thank you. I trusted Google. Fool me once. Now I keep my anal retentive collection to myself.

Note that I have stacks and stacks of CDs including most of the aforementioned FAX releases..many are so rare I could flip them on ebay for hundreds of dollars each.

IF you frick up plex like you usually do with your endorsements, I literally will drive to Nashville and whip your arse.

Ignorant question: if I cancel YT music, then find a music file on my phone, can I play it? If so, what program/app is going to perform this?
