You are basically paying a +500 premium for having the latest and greatest. I agree it's ridiculous, but the market dictates it. i always buy last years model. Usually LG because thats what i'm used to.

LG V20 Brand new $350 on ebay and its a great phone. There are plenty of options around that price point, you just have to research and look around.

I have an LG v10 and you can get it for ~$200.

You did not "buy" the phone for $200. You made a down payment and the payment plan for the phone was hidden from you in such a way that if you didn't upgrade after you paid it off, you were just giving AT&T extra money each month. The old way was leasing and the new way is buying. You aren't getting screwed now any more than you were back then. In fact you're getting screwed less now because you aren't penalized for not upgrading if you choose not to.

Yep. I would much rather the way it is now. Got my phone bill about $50 a month lower and just buy a decent phone from the interwebz. Much cheaper this way.

Serious question, are the plans any cheaper? Like are you really saving 36 / month on the service?

Under the old plan, you paid $200 upfront and then $100 per month for your contract. That $100 a month actually pays for the phone for the remaining cost of the phone. You weren't getting an $800 phone for $200. However, at the end of the two-year contract, you could upgrade your phone by paying $200 again, or do nothing and still pay $100 dollars a month.
Therein lies the problem. The phones have gotten too ecxpensive to "hide."

Why are you upset w/ AT&T? They don't dictate the prices of the phones.

My only problem with carriers selling phones thru installments is that they still insist on adding their bloatware and making sure the phone is only fully compatible with their network. If they expect consumers to pay full price for the phone without a subsidy, then the phones better be universal.

You just got completely schooled on your little rant.

I could give a shite less. In the end, like I stated, I'm not paying more than $250 for a fricken phone. But I appreciate y'all who explained to me that I was still getting screwed either way, they'e just being more honest about it now lol. So even though they may have weaseled that money from me in the past, it won't happen again. $1000 for a phone is just plain ridiculous.

Yes, when they brought out the next plans you got a $15-$25 per month per phone discount vs. the old plans. I immediately started saving money each month when I switched. You truly were paying for a $600-$1000 phone before and just didn't realize it.

It seems like you gave lots of shits when you were melting about how terrible at&t is.

Also, as has been previously stated, AT&T does not set the price of the phones. Me thinks your anger and lashing out is misplaced. Maybe be pissed at Apple and Samsung, etc.

Anyways, good luck with your $250 potato phone

Care to share any of them besides ebay?

I've ordered 4 smartphones via EBay and have been completely happy with those purchases. All were brand new or like new. Just pick a good seller.

I just bought a factory unlocked BlackBerry Priv off of Best buy website. Runs Marshmallow, no carrier bloatware, quicker updates and more of them. Paid $300. Not much more than that subsidized price.

Anyways...I'll just buy a reasonably price, slightly older model phone for a lot less than the shiny flagship phone that runs you a grand.

The Galaxy S8 is 30 payments at $25 a month. That's $750.

And you can trade in any phone worth $25 for two hundred off of that. Have mine coming in for AT&T on Friday.

*24 monthly payments of $24, did it directly through Samsung

The innovations in each new model nowhere near justifying buying a brand new phone. Stay one to two models behind and save your money.

My opinion anyway.

You can get very nice phones for $250. All you have to do is go a model or so backwards.
